Hit the menu button, and look for the word "idioma" which means language, and select that. You should then be able to toggle back and forth between English and Spanish.
You may have to look under "opciones config. vcr" which is VCR Setup to find it.

Go to the "TV settings" menu section in your TV. Find the "system" section in it and click it open. There, you should find "menu language". Switch it from Spanish to English.

You didn't explain why you can't. No manual? You follow the instructions but they don't work?
I'll assume the basic, no manual.
If it's the VCR then do the following...
Turn it on and press the VCR button at the top of the remote. Then press the SETUP MENU button. Then highlight SETUP on the screen and select it. Hightlight LANGUAGE SELECT and follow the instructions in the yellow box to change.
If it is the DVD then do the following...
Turn it on and press DVD at the top of the remote. Then press the SETUP MENU button. The big 'A' should be highlighted at the top left of the screen. Move the highlight to the right to MENU LANGUAGE. Then move it again to the right to ENGLISH at the top of the list. SELECT English and press SELECT MENU again.
Open the the phone and hit the OK button for the menu Press 9 which is settings and tools. Press 6 which is the phone settings. Pressing 4 will get you the Language selection. Use the direction pad to scroll to a ENGLISH, then press OK.
the close caption feature is different than the language in the menu.
Try to find the close caption feature in the menu and get it off. Now if she hit a button then chances are you find some button with that description in the remote control (close caption or text) make sure is off.
