Everything on the microwave works, except it does not heat.
With the symptoms you
have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier
diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.
The diode is a fairly
cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.
If you or someone you
know
decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.
There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here.
Here are some links you
or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety
warnings first:
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it's not shorted, it's
probably okay)

You can usually find
helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full
model number here.

I have the same microwave doing the same thing. It is a Maytag MMV4205BAW. To all appearances it is working normally, the light comes on inside, the control panel "buttons" all work, the turntable rotates, and the cooling fan comes on, but it does not heat anything. Could this be a defective design or manufactured with defective parts?
The inside light and turntable come on and it sounds like it always has. The model number is MMV4205AAW and the serial number is 10127252GA. It was manufactured in January 2005.
Everything works on the microwave except it will not heat.
WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.. runs fine but will not heat everything.. maytag MMV4205BA
microwave works normally as far as turntable, timer, lights, fan, etc. except it doesn't cook the food at all. Started all at once. Working fine just a couple of hours earlier & then just stopped cooking.
The microwave turns on and appears to operate normally, but the food does not "cook" as it did before. Sometimes it does not warm the food at all.
I have the same problem... Model MMV420AA
and i took it in to get repairsNovember of 07 and had a blown mag .. at that time was covered under warranty... however the problem at that point was more severe was totally dead. No sure what to do with this... Seems like this is going to be expensive to repair... Might be time to get a new Microwave and DUMP the maytag Brand!
When you hit Start to
cook, do the inside light and turntable come on?
Any unusual noises? Is
it louder or quieter than usual?
Do you have the model number?
These answers will help
me judge whether it's in the high voltage
section (magnetron, transformer, or diode) or the control section
(door switch or control board relay or connection).
Everything seems to work except it doesn't heat the food. The touch pad functions and so does the clock and fan, but the oven does not produce heat
