Whirlpool oven caught fire while cleaning

I started the self cleaning cycle on my oven, after about 20-30 minutes the inside of the oven caught fire. I turned off the oven and the fire went out, there was something that spilled onto the bottom of the oven that caught fire. I now need to clean the oven and found that oven cleaners are not recommended for self cleaning ovens. The oven and stove work fine, I haven't gotten any error codes, I'm just wondering how to now clean out the oven - what products will work? The bottom is now very burnt and crusty.

My whirlpool oven model RBD245 is locked after the self cleaning cycle, it does not heat up even if i open the latch with a tool?

Whirlpool have the self clean latch assembly solenoid go bad and wont return back to unlock the switch to tell the control is is no longer in self clean. Replace the self clean latch assembly or make sure the switch on the assembly is in the non self clean mode, If the oven starts working then you know the problem if it still doesn't work then there may be other issues.

Should my broiler turn on when I am preheating my oven this does not seem right to me and my oven caught on fire last night

Hi,
Yes the broiler will often turn on to help preheat the oven.
If it caught fire, it is not because of that, but because you have too much run over food in the oven. That is what caught fire. You need to clean it an NOT with the self clean!!

I have a self cleaning whirlpool oven. It caught on fire and I turned off the cycle. Is it safe to use the oven? And can I just clean it manually?

I highly recommend that you wipe it out as often as possible to prevent using the self clean mode. It heats to over 800 degrees and this usually takes out electronic parts. It should be fine to use your oven now. I would heat it and watch it to be sure there are no more flames. Hope this helps!

if you have a self clean oven, do not use an abrasive cleaner to clean
I would recommend running a self clean cycle, and anything left
"Mr. Clean Magic eraser" should take care of it.

How do I use the steam clean self-cleaning oven?

The SteamClean option spot cleans the oven in 20 minutes and is recommended for cleaning light spills on the bottom of the oven cavity. When used routinely, the SteamClean option reduces the need for frequent self-clean cycle use. To use the SteamClean option, pour 12 ounces (1 1/2 cup) of water into the bottom of the oven cavity, close the oven door and push the SteamClean button. At the end of the cycle, consumers wipe out the bottom of the oven, easily removing oven soils. The steam cleaning option is eco-friendly and does not require frequent use of the self-clean cycle, which can create a strong odor. Read this in a post about the new whirlpool ranges

Oven Caught Fire!!

Remove oven racks and look for two screws in the back on the bottom. Remove screws and lift out oven bottom. Do not use self clean.

Oven door locked

First check to see if you activated the "child lock-out". See your manual to deactivate.

You could also try unplugging the unit, or trip the circuit breaker in your home which supplies power to the oven. Wait 5 minutes and turn power back on. This will reset the controls.

Good luck!
