PSP slim analog joystick replacement problem.

I got some replacement sticks and pulled out the old stick and inserted the new and the stick does not work the pointer mover to the uper left. After trying the old stick It would hold position fine but after removing it the 2nd time I saw a small clear plastic part on the contacts of the old stick. I tryed to place this part (clear with copper looking fibers inpregnated inside for contact resones). I then installed the new stick with the plastic and the plastic would not stay in place. after several trys the plastic was dameged. Was the plastic part supose to stay on the main unit and not the stick? The new sticks did not come with the plastic part? Kinda lost for what to do now. H E L P (please).

How to Replace Analog Joystick on PSP-2001

If your PSP's joystick won't go in a certain direction -- or characters walk by themselves, this part needs to be replaced. It is sold at the website all the way at the bottom for $16.95 and they can do this repair job for $18 more! However, it's not very difficult. Here are the steps:

Step 1. Open PSP. There are 2 screws on the top of the PSP.

Step 2. There are 4 screws behind the PSP and one on the bottom, as circled in the picture.

Step 3. Remove the faceplate and locate the PSP 2001 Analog Assembly. It is held into the console by 1 black screw, as circled in the picture.

Step 4. Remove the black screw and pry the joystick out of the PSP as shown below.

Step 5. It is important that you remove this clear silicon piece from the old joystick and install it into the new one. Its purpose is to communicate the movement of the joystick from the assembly to the motherboard. It sits between the assembly and the motherboard.

Step 6. After you transfer the piece, pry the motherboard slightly up as you slide the new assembly back in place as pictured.

Step 7. You will need to pry this piece up to slide the assembly into place so that it is seated. Replace the black screw and close it back up.

The analogue joystick isnt working properly. the character wanders off in wrong direction on its own.

simple, get a replacement joystick module and install it on your psp. i did a couple. the psp really isnt that intimidating to take apart. compared to an xbox 360 or playstation

Unresponsive analog stick

check to make sure the headphone/tv output jack is not pushed in farther than its supposed to be. youl know if its in to far. if its fine then you mite need to replace the joystick chip. its not that complicated of a procedure.
first off buy another joystick make sure its for your psp first there are different modles.

oper up your psp. to do this (depending on your modle) unscrew the little screw that are on the outside plastics. there is 2 under the batter one of tem you can see the other is under neith the sticker at the bottom poke around to find it

once you have your psp open your scree will get in the way so dont unplug it but just bring it out of the plastic brace that has it in there. there will be lil aluminun strips on the side that hold the screen still just pop those out of there holes careful not to crack the screen.

then your motherboard mite get in the way so you will need to just lift that one up and out of the way be carefult not to break any plugs. once you have that up your joystick should be acessable. if there is one more just unscrew that one andset it aside for now.

just insert your new joystick in place of the old one and go back threw that steps till its together again

i cant be held responsible if something goes wrong OPEN YOU PSP AT YOUR OWN RISK
good luck its isnt hard really

dont throw this one in the trash. your analog stick on the psp is stuck in the forward position. just take your analog stick off and replace it to where it is centered.

My new installed psp analog stick doesn't work

Hello,

Did you make sure not to lose the small transparent rectangle that is "floating" on top of the analog (in the inside). The analog does not work without it.

Psp analog stick

If I'm understanding the directions correctly, all you need to do is pull up on the analog cap. It snaps back on so don't be afraid when it comes off. If you lose the cap, i believe they sell replacements for it separately in most Best Buys, Circuit City, etc. They cost like 5 dollars for 3 or something....

After you pull off the cap there should be kind of a small stubby joystick.

Good Luck!
