SOURCE: front panel leads Emachine model T2862

E-machine model T2862 pin-out for the 10-pin front panel header is screen-printed on my Emachine's motherboard, but is so small and far away from the actual pin location, that it is likely being overlooked. If looking into the computer case from the side where you remove the panel, the header looks like a row of four pins with one missing at the farthest right pin location, and a row of 5 pins underneath that, with the fifth pin directly below the missing (key) pin in the row above it. Starting on the first row, you would install the 2-pin connector from the front panel labeled "Power LED" to the leftmost and 2nd from the left pins. (You may need to switch it around to get it to work as the LED is polarized. You will know as soon as the system starts to boot up if it is on properly, as this light burns constantly if the unit is on.) Then, to the right of that connection, you would connect the 2-pin connector labeled "Power Switch" to the 3rd and 4th pins from the left on the first row. (It does not matter which way around this connector plugs on, as all we are really doing is allowing the front panel button to connect these pins together to turn the system's power supply on when you press the button.) OK! Drop down to the BOTTOM row of pins below the first row. To the leftmost and 2nd from the left pins on the second row you will install the connector labeled "HDD LED". (Again, you may have to switch it around to get it to work since it is polarized. You will have to watch the system boot up and as the hard drive is accessed, you will see it blinking randomly if it is connected properly. NOTE: You will not damage anything if this or the power LED is hooked up wrong. They simply will not function. So don't fret, just switch them around.) Next, the header has room to connect a reset switch if your system has one. (Mine does not.) You would install the 2-pin connector labeled "RESET" to the 3rd and 4th pins from the left on the second row of pins. (Again, this is a connector that works fine regardless of which way around you install it, as it simply lets the reset button connect these pins to reset the system when the button is pressed.) Finally, you will notice one pin is left unused below the missing (KEY) pin. As far as I know, this pin does nothing, but is likely a ground or maybe a source for DC power as I have seen before. The unused pin above it is for manufacturers who make one connector coming from the front of the case which is pre-wired with all these functions, so the connector (usually with 10 total possible wire locations) can have that one location sealed or capped to prevent someone from installing it the wrong way around and potentially sending voltages somewhere they shouldn't be going, or causing something to not work properly. I made a quick pic in MS Paint below for better reference:

My emachine won't start the fans come on but no light any clue what i can do

it could be the front connectors...if you can read your mobo it should diagram it out for you...it will also say in the manual, not that anyone keeps them.
The LED is not important in retrospect but the PW switch should be connected right if the fans are coming on, could be a bad MOBO
also check:
RAM-if you have multiple sticks of ram one could've gone bad
CPU-remove the processor and heat sink, replace, being careful to seat it onto the mobo right, apply thermal paste and replace heatsink. the cpu would be my guess as the probable cause

Newly built system will not power up!

It seems like you have bad MOBO. I recently ordered all the stuff to build 2 new systems. Built the first one, no power, just like yours. Moved everything to the 2nd MOBO, everything worked. I did a RMA on the DOA MOBO. Got the new one and it fired right up. Sometimes you just get bad stuff.

Please don't forget to rate this solution.

T2893 desktop did not power on when I hit the power button

If you can find someone that has the same model, that is the best way to make sure it fits. Some other motherboards will fit, but you may have to do some work to get them to fit. The best way would be to try to do some research on your particular motherboard (mobo) on the internet. Sometimes it will have a manufacture’s name and model on it, try googling it and see what type it says it is (ATX, mini-ATX, AT, etc). One problem you may have is the power button connectors may not be compatible with your new motherboard if you get something besides an emachine mobo. If you are good at electronics it will not be much of a problem for you.

Unless you get an exact e-machines mobo, your OS will most likely not work at startup. Windows XP does not like wholesale changes like a mobo. When it sees that a major configuration change has happened it sometimes freaks out. Sometimes it will just ask you to re-activate windows other times it gets stuck in a reboot loop. Hard rive and CD rom should still work, provide you do not get too new of a mobo. Older HDD and CD drives were IDE connectors, newer ones have SATA connectors. Unless your mobo and power supply unit (PSU) have the correct connectors you will not be able to use them.

To the poster who asked if it could be anything else besides bad mobo. Yes it can occasionally be a bad power supply unit (PSU). A bad PSU does not necessarily mean no power, just not enough power to run the computer. You can try swapping it out with another one of equal or greater output watts. You can try removing the power connectors from the drives and then remove the memory and see if it changes the boot up procedure of your machine. More beeps, different beeps, no beeps, etc. Add one component back at a time to test. Make sure you get the same results and not just a one-time fluke start up. If a memory stick is bad, it usually is bad. A power supply or mobo can be flaky and fail some times and not others.

Emachines t3830 I need the schematic for MB I umployed the wire for the push bottom without looking at the way they were plug. Now I do not know the correct aligning of the push bottom wires.

If you look at the motherboard there is usually a diagram labeled "FRONT PANEL HDR" that will tell you which pins are for: HDD LED, PWR LED, RESET, PWR ON. etc.
The chart / diagram may be a few inches away from front panel header.
the following example is from my emachine T2893 that I had opened because it won't power up.

the motherboard at the header connector labels pin #2 and with that you can figure out the other
pin numbers

example of diagram on motherboard (Confirm the pin numbers on your motherboard)

J9G1 PINS
| HD LED | 1 - 3 |
| PWR LED | 2 - 4 |
| RESET | 5 - 7 |

| PWR ON | 6 - 8 |

Hope this helps you figure which pins to hook you switch up to.
