Marantz pm 7200 loudspeakers do not cut off when headphones pugged in

I purchased the amp pm 7200 from ebay, it works fine except the loudspeakers do not mute when you plug in a headphone jack. How does it affect the value of the amp and is it a sign of further problems to come?

Some amps have a button which you press to mute the speakers when the headphones are plugged in. Sometimes marked "Speakers on off". If it hasn't then a new headphone socket would not be expensive to fit. As long as the amp producers sound I don't see any future problems. The previous owner may have used the headphone socket a lot, and simply wore it out!

SOURCE: marantz pm 7200 lost sound, only works when volume

You have either lost the pre-amp stage or the Main Amp stage. Since you have a problem on both channels it most be a part that is common to both channels. Something like an IC I would suspect.

Testimonial: "i figure out that one channel works but the other one doesnt. how can i fix this? is it very complicated to fix. "

Marantz pm 7200 amplifier

2002 made, a 20 year run, not bad for any old AMP.
fuses good?????? yes.
I got confused in the first post gee I can hear it?
but yes the AMP works plays music etc, not told and only tone fails, just that, and we know why.
source direct button is pushed in,OOPS now tone is dead by DESIGN
if still fails we check all DC supplies to tone board 7000
and clean all switch and relay contacts with electronics spray cleaner as we fully cycle each switch.
or pay others huge cash (bread) to do those 2 simple acts.

My Marantz pm-42 amplifier has distortion on one channel. I have tried different speakers, cables and input sources but the problem still persists. Audio is fine through headphones. Please help. Paul

As the audio is good through the headphones it could be something to do with the headphone socket itself. When headphones are plugged in the socket has a switching mechanism that switches the speakers off. So something around the socket or the actual socket might be causing the problem.

UK, I have a sr7200 but no remote! Are there any compatable ones out there? I have been quoted £250.00 for a replacement

I bought a RC3200 programmable remote after my dog chewed the origional unit. £30 off ebay, works a great. It comes preprogrammed for all Marantz units. Only problem is that it is a bit hard on batteries.

Hi I have two marantz amps witch cut in and out when run from

In stereo terms your system is "clipping" which means you are pulling more amps than the system can handle. If it happens only when you use the mixer, I'm thinking the mixer cant handle the power. Check the specs, It should show maximum amp input.

Marantz Pm-7200 left channel weak compared to the right

hmmm. Let's start by swapping the wires you are using for your speakers. Double check the wire connections first, then take the left and place iton the right and vice versa.

Marantz PM-48 connecting to TV

look on the back of the TV and there should be L/R audio outputs (white & red), connect this to a spare input of your amp via a connecting lead eg. AUX or any other input except PHONO.

hope this helps.

Marantz pm 7200

Could be a power supply failure or a Power "On" switch failure.
