Canon SD800IS camera won't turn on suddenly, tried new battery to

The camera has not been dropped or mishandled in anyway. It just stopped powering up. I thought it might be the battery. Since it sometimes powered up before it permanently stopped. I've taken the front and back case off but no visible burn or component/connection failure to my untrained eye could be seen.

Help, It is just out of the one year warranty.

Any help would be appreciated. I am somewhat mechanically and electrically inclined.

I have the same problem. The camera makes a brief sound when it is turned on but quickly turns itself off. I changed the battery but still no change.

You have little choice here, either send it back to Canon for an exchange unit ort buy another camera.

Leave the mode selector wheel alone. It is not necessary to remove it. Take a look at the following A530 disassembly guide. It should be of help:

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

SOURCE: camera was working fine...all of a sudden,it would not turn on...thought maybe battery was dead, tried to recharge it,light would not go on,tried another charged battery, still would not work

This error is either a flash circuit or a lens error. One of the two need replacement.

SOURCE: Canon XTi w/ no power

All electronic devices are using tiny electronic parts, which are wearing out when the device (in this case teh camera).

Depending of the manufacturng process ad materials involved durig the fabrication of the parts, they may last several years, or just a couple, as in this case.

Such symptom indicate a malfunction on the DC/DC voltage converter circuitry, and the camera has two of them located in different boards.

In order to perform a correct diagnostics and repair of it, it is necessary to open such camera and perform it by a qualified camera repair technician.

You have the option of pay for its repair, but definitely you have to quote such repair service in different places.

$200.00 is excessive for a diagnostics service. I mean, if such repair center will charge $50.00 just for diagnostis, and after that, you receive a quote with $150.00 to repair it (besides the diagnostics, where th other parts are checked too), then you can make the decision in repair it.

I am positive you can find other places to have a diagnostics performed on it.

If after check different options, still you are not sure about where to send it to repair, you can check in ebay for such diagnostic services.

One Ebay option is to contact the ID seller Great_items_2004

I dropped my Canon PowerShot SX120 IS Digital Camera and now there is no power. Is there a reset button on the inside or anywhere?

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Stupidly but accidentally left my Canon PowerShot SD800IS outside on table and it rained!!! I can't see anything through the screen! Stick seems OK. Battery is functioning. What can be done. Thanks.

Well you can try not to turn it on and let it dry out in a DRY room

But if you turn it on after it was still wet or it was not fully dried ...Then

you have to bring it to a camera repair shop I would call around but

make sure that you do not tell them it was wet because it they may tell you that

there is more problems then just the LCD screen.... So if the board is wet and

there was power turn on there will be clear signs of the residue left from the rain...

You can also call Canon to see if they no of any Camera Shops in your area that will Repair

it or Maybe give you a trade in credit towards a used or new camera,

Thank You

My PowerShote SD800IS lens will not retract and makes a grinding noise. Please help!

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

I was replacing my screen on the SD800IS.

Sounds like you need to also reseat the skinny ribbon cable. Believe this is the one that provides power to the backlight:

Camera died

You may want to try if the little black latch contact next to the battery and the memory card is not working properly. The camera will freeze and not turn on when this contact is not engaged. Open the battery latch, press down on the little black contact using a pen and try to turn on the camera. If so, the latch doesn't engage that contact any more in regular use. If not, no luck. I had this problem and fixed it by putting a small thick piece of tape on the little pin on the latch that is supposed to press this contact.

Canon Powershot A610 won't power-up

My camera stopped working some time later after being dropped.
If you are brave (or desperate), try this... I found it was not too difficult to open the camera up. Take all the screws from the bottom, sides and under the card and usb, and inside the battery compartment. They are all different lengths so keep some record of what goes where. Then I made sure the multiway connector underneath the top was firmly in place. That was all I could see that I could fix myself. And what luck! when I put it back together it worked.
