How do I change the bulb on a Akai PTH5498 54 in projection ?

U have not change the projection bulb for this tv at lest 2 years,and u used the tv alots?The first thing u require to do is to change the projection bulb.See what happen,than go from there.

Genarly for a projection type there are three

This is a CRT (or picture tube) projection TV . and if the green CRT won't come on it doesn't mean the crt is bad. The red or ble CRT could be put in the place of the green one to confirm if the tube is bad . It is more likely that the voltages feeding the green crt (middle CRT) are bad or missing. In either case it takes a bit of troubleshooting and disassembly to confirm. A CRT costs between $200-$500.

You put the lens or tube on backawards...

check the brightness control on the three colors controls, they could be off.

This set does not have a bulb. It could be a number of things; a high-voltage problem or if the convergence IC's are bad this would prevent the set from comong on.

check for popped or raised tops on caps in power supply. also try unplugging set for 5 minutes and resetting it. How about does your color wheel spin up? if your color wheel don't startup then your tv will also shut down. also check all fans they all should be running at turn on. if all fails i would say its your light engine.
