I have turned the circuit breaker off. then wait 20 minutes. Turn the circuit breaker on. that is when all the lights come on with an 888. then display changes to 180 then to a r 4. I turn on the heater. It will come on with the spa temp 86. Blower starts, then heating light blinks, then heater kicks in for maybe 10 seconds. then heater shuts off with blower still going I receive a code Ad with a blinking 0. changes to SF 1 then 888 then r 4. blower tuns off in this process.
Check your stack flu sensor. Sensor can not be jumped. As soon as the heater fires hold down the pool or spa button until the stack temp appears. At 500 degrees the heater will shut off giving a code. The heater should not restart. I would also check for wire damage based on the description of your issue and the board restarting on it own. You may also have damage to the "user interface board" , hard to say with out on site trouble shooting.

This heater has a thermal regulator and a high limit that could be the problems. If it were a high limit that was bad, the display would show the error when the heater goes off. In the absence of an error, one would look to the regulator. A bad regulator would cause the water flow to bypass the exchanger and cause a slow heat. The part is easily replaced and runs about $90. It sort of looks like a car thermostat and also has a spring. It is accessed by removing the large black plug near the plumbing inlet/outlet.

I am not sure if you have solved this issue, or not, but here is one idea. When you turn on the heater, it is reading the temp at 125/126 correct? IF this is what the heater is reading, then the problem is the Thermistor,or temp sensor, and is very easy to replace.
If you have an Owner's Manual, there are part numbers and instructions on how to replace the Thermistor. If you do not have one, follow the link below and it will take you to one online:

Anytime the heater is reading the water temp to be above what it actually is, especially 126, the problem is the Thermistor, or Temp Sensor, for the heater. This is a very easy part to replace. The Thermistor is located on the manifold, on the left side, between the top two bolts.
Sorry this is a late response! Hope that it helps!

This is an ignition falure code. What you hear is the fan starting not the heater fireing. This can be a number of things and sorry to say but you should have a repairman out to look at the heater. The gambet runs from very frail parts to just plain dangerous and should have a qualified person check it out.
