The application preferences file is damaged. Please remove it and re-launch QuarkExpress [297] Where is the preferences file located? (Version 9, Windows 7)

The preferences file will be in the User\AppData folder.
C:\Users\ your user name\AppData\ Local\Quark\QuarkXPress 7 is the location in Vista with version 7 and it should have a similar location in Windows 7.

C:\Users\ your user name\AppData\ Local\Quark\QuarkXPress 9 is likely. (AppData has 3 folders - Local, Local Low and Roaming.)

You should not delete the folder. Instead rename it. Right click on the folder and select Rename. Then name it
old_QuarkXPress 9.

This could be a hidden file. If you click Start and then enter Show hidden folders. Then put the bullet on Show hidden files, folders and drives. Then click Apply and OK.

If moving the AppData location to another folder doesn't solve the problem, check if there is a Preferences file in the Program Files folder (
C:\ Program Files\ Quark\ QuarkXPress 7.x for the old version.) If the new version is built for the 64-bit OS, it might be in the x64 Program File folder. Again rename the file if it is in that directory.

I hope this helps.

How can I pull up files off of my SD card?

The e260 can only play audio files from the microSD card, and they have to be in a folder named "MUSIC". Pictures and videos must be in main memory.

If your audio files are not in a folder named "MUSIC" then put the card back into whatever you used to put the files there in the first place and either rename the folder or create a new one and put the files there.

I selected open folder to view pictures. The f: file display DCIM. I clicked it and it display Olympus displaying pics. I name a couple of pics in the slide. I wanted to change the folder name I...

it sounds like you deleted the images. If you are downloading images from your camera or card....you should open the folder to view images. hold control key down and select all images that you want to download. right click on them on click save.

it sounds like you are trying to rename a folder before downloading anything. I know that when I try to edit or rotate any of my images on my card, i first need to download the images to a folder before doing any edits. it does sound like you were trying to rename your folder. normally, you would right click on folder, and click rename. hope this helps. if you need anything else, feel free to ask!!!

I want to get my profile back

This can be a little easier than it sounds, but it takes a quite a few steps. The profile names only get extensions like .domainname or .thiscomputer if there is already a folder in the profile folder under the username. The easiest way to recover the original profile is to log in as another username with admin rights and follow these steps:

BE CAREFUL NOT TO DELETE ANYTHING YOU NEED!!! If in doubt MOVE to a backup location instead of deleting

Remove any "new" profiles under the same username

Delete (or move) the "new" profile folders, so that there are no folders in the profile folder under the username you want

rename the profile folder of the username you want to keep - i.e. rename it to "OldUsername"

logout and log in as the username you want

logout and log back in as your alternate admin user

look in the profiles folder, you should now see a folder with the original name corresponding to the original username folder you renamed. If that folder does not exist, something is not working right - you'll need to give me more information before I can tell you what.

copy the contents (make sure you have your view settings set to show all files, including system files) from the renamed profile folder (OldUsername if you used my suggestion) to the newly created profile folder. Overwrite anything that exists in the folder.

Logout and log back in as the desired username. All settings should be restored.

These steps are dependant on continuance of profile foldernames. The "new' Profile folder MUST be the EXACT name of the original. This is because many items in the USER.DAT (user hive of the registry) point to folders by name. If you don't get the foldername correct, the process will not work.

Lost files

Have you tried to SEARCH for any file names that you put into that folder? If the search finds a file name that you placed into the folder, make a note of the location of that file, this should help you to locate the missing folder .... it's generally not a good idea to place large files or folders in the desktop, depending on the Windows version you are running. But try the SEARCH for individual file names that you remember putting into the new storage file. Let us know what happens?

File/Folder Permission Message in Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus

Hello welcome to FIxya!

Here you can check this procedure on how to open your files again.

"1) Check your Recycle Bin
2) Do a Folder/File Search for each of the Grey Folder Project names. This will display all Folders & Files with that Project Name. You are looking for an .stx File. If it's there, right-Click on Project Name / Open Containing Folder & Copy it to your My Projects Folder. Then you should have both the Grey Folder & .stx File for the same Project name, showing in your My Projects Folder.
If the Search doesn't display a .stx File, you can create a new one, by Opening a New empty Project, which will create a My Movie Grey Folder & a My Movie .stx File, Save to your My Projects Folder. Delete the My Movie Grey Folder & Rename the My Movie .stx File to the same name as your original Grey Folder."
So ...after finding my "lost" movie file, with its file name, under Documents\Pinnacle Studio\My Projects i then went through the following procedures using your great advice Colour;
  1. Make a copy of your found "lost" movie grey film icon file by right mouse clicking on your lost file and choosing "copy". Paste the copy into another folder in Documents where you can find it if need be
  2. Then go back to Documents\Pinnacle Studio\My Projects and right mouse click onto your grey film icon. Choose "rename". Then rename your "lost" grey film icon to a new file name but do not put .stc at the end of the file name, if you are operating VISTA and Pinnacle 12. This is important because Pinnacle 12 won't recognise the file later if you have .stc in the file name
  3. Open Pinnacle and go to the File Menu
  4. Click on New Project
  5. Open File Menu again and click on Save File as
  6. Give the file a name such as "Movie 7" and save it
  7. Close out of Pinnacle
  8. Open up Documents\Pinnacle Studio\My Projects and observe that you now have 2 new files there ...a grey film icon file saying Movie 7 AND a coloured Pinnacle icon file saying Movie 7
  9. Delete the grey icon file with the file name Movie 7
  10. Now give your coloured Pinnacle icon file the exact same rename as your precious "lost" renamed grey movie icon file, using the right mouse click on rename proceedure as explained in No.2 above.
  11. Close out of Documents file
  12. Now open up Pinnacle again
  13. Go to Menu and choose Open Project
  14. There you will see the coloured Pinnacle icon file with the new name of your "lost" movie file.
  15. Click onto its coloured Pinnacle icon, and watch your "lost" movie come into view again

I can't rename folder

FD32 is a FreeDOS download, which is not appropriate/relevant to Windows operating systems. If you are on Windows as indicated, you can rename a file by right-clicking on the file name in either a "My Computer" or a Windows "Explorer" window, click Rename, and then type in the name you wish it to be. Alternatively, you can click on the name and after a short pause, click a second time. This should basically "open up" the file name for editing within the file list you are looking at.

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently and/or more details regarding the situation, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution. Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

Is it possible to rename digital pics on HD in large groups?

defaults to naming a folder for the date it was created. You should be OK if you accept their default. I usually go in using thumbnail view and re-name my photos when they are downloaded. You can rename the folder before downloading. I deleted Image Zone for my HP camera due to a conflict with my HP scanner, but if I remember correctly, you right click the default location name and rename to suit you.
