I have an asus mother board with athlon64 3800+ cpu. I have two dual head nvidia geforce 6600 vid cards ea. w/ 1 pcie and 1 pci output to sli and vga, respectively. I barely know what I'm talking about here. I was using 1 pcie and both pci/vga outputs to monitors - having disconnected the other sli monitor for other reasons a few weeks ago. a cpl of days ago, one of the vga lcd screens was black when I brought the computer out of screen saver mode and had nothing on it. the on/off button that has a light around it had its light rapidly blinking. after working on my comuter for about 15 minutes, the monitor came back to life and was fine. then when the computer went back into screen saver mode and I brought it back out, the monitor did the same thing. now it doesn't come on at all. i thought it was the monitor. but i plugged in my other spare sli monitor and it does the same thing. so I have one pci/vga and 1 pcie/sli monitor each blank now with blinking on/off buttons and two working monitors, 1 pci/vga and 1 pcie/sli. pls advise. thanks in advance.

thanks for the replys. lol, yes guess I made it obvious i'm not a hardware or computer guy. OK, I will call the upper board, board 1 and the lower board, board 2. They each of two outputs (being that they are dual-head video cards). Each has 1 DVI and 1 SVGA output. Consequently, I have 4 monitors. I have three in a line on my desk and one above the middle one on a shelf. However, when I identify them with desktop properties, the one on the shelf appears above the left most monitor. The center monitor = 1 and is my desktop. The one above = 2 and the properties functions show that -- oh, I just got one of them to work. It was disabled somehow. But the other one still doesn't work, but this might help clear the waters a bit. The other DVI is working and is on the board where the SVGA is working, so I know it is not board no. 2, the bottom board. So now I have 1 SVGA output / monitor that has a blinking on/off button and a blank screen. Monitor 4 is on the left, monitor 1 is in the center and monitor 3 is on the right. It the one that was disabled. So, DVI / monitor 1 center works, SVGA / monitor 2 works, DVI / monitor 3 on the shelf works.

    2

    4 1 3

SVGA monitor 4 is the one that does not work. I hope the above is not too confusing.

    Thanks

i dont mean to sound rude, but you are quite right, u arent sure what you talking abou, the problem with helping you here is that you make no sense. im going to gave you a run down on what words mean what and what they do and what they are.

PCI and PCIe ( PCI Express) is the format of the card, how it plugs into the motherboard.
Where you plug your monitors (computer screen) on the back of the card the are two types of outputs. The DVI output and the SVGA output. The SVGA output is the older of the two and has 3 rows of pins.

SLI is the terminology used for using two graphics cards connected to each other to function as one.

Your problem is more than likely somewhere between either the SLI drivers OR your setup.

I would suggest the first thing you do is to remove 1 of the graphics cards and use one monitor and see if you get display. also get the newest drivers from nvidia website.

Now lay your problem out with the correct wording and terminology.

Also please number the grpahics cards in your lay out and your monitors.

Example : Grpahics card 1 has monitor number 1 and 2 connected.

And lets take it from there.

    good luck and tlak soon

Sounds like your computer is going into standby or sleep mode. Does hitting enter on the keyboard turn it back on? Does pressing the power button turn it back on? One of those should do it.

You can change it so it does not do this, In windows xp you can goto power options in the control panel, and change system standby to 'never'. Not sure in vista probably about the same thing.

If this doesn't help then maybe you have a hardware problem.

Can i add 2 graphics card in asus P5G41C-M LX ? now i have nvidia GTS 450 graphics card.. plz help.....

Hello there,
*********** board has an Integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics, maximum shared memory of 1G, it should be automatically disabled if the pcie slot detects a video card but some mother board embedded gpu runs with the pcie card unless disabled in the bios.
Do you have plans on running a SLI (Scalable Link Interface) linking two or more gpu to produce a single output on *********** board. why SLI? because you already hae a GTS 450 GPU but you cant do this configuration because *********** board has a single pcie slot.
If you have plans on running a pci gpu with your GTS 450 it should, but if you encounter any problem try manually assigning IRQ's and resources through the BIOS? I don't have this specific board.

Hopefully this information helps.
Thanks you for using FixYa.

Choosing Graphics card.

NVidia Geforce series, i have found is the most reliable and less likely to screw with your system in a negative way like Radeon.

I have used all forms of video cards in the past. the GeForce series is stable. I have a Dual HDMI output card myself, its only a 512mb DDR2 but it does the work load of MMORPG's with ease and my system very rarely has issues unless i am trying to run more than i rightly should. So my suggestion is the GF9600T. It is powerful beyond beleif and will make resolution and texture ratio through the roof.

Thats my professional opinion on this.

SLI Video Cards

Enter you're bios & open you're manual to page 4-32. Set you're
configuration to dual video card. Use the AL software to tweak you're settings in windows. If you find this not helpful than please call Asus tech at: 1-812-282-2787, M-F 8:00AM-5:00PM EST. Unlike other companies you will not be on the phone very long. Please have the S/N of the board handy. This is located on the board, on the LTP port (White sitcker).

Good Luck!
