Component input problems

Hello-
I have a Denon AVR- 3805 receiver hooked up to Runco projector. I have a sony dvd player hooked up on component input 1 and I am trying to hook up a scientific atlanta Explorer 4250HDC cable box on component input 2 or 3. I have tried both. The audio is coming in fine via optical input 2. My problem is getting a picture to show up. I have tried 2 boxes on this tv and have the same issue. When I unplug and plug in the box I get the Power TV boot up screen, but no input after the boot process completes. The dvd player works fine on both of those inputs. The sound is working normally.

SOURCE: How to Connect HDMI Components with AVR 3805 as Hub

In reference to the comment you added to our chat session:

Just connect your receiver to your TV using the same cable your receiver is currently using to connect to your TV, be it Composite, S-Video, or Component. Just switch your TV to that input when you need to set-up something on the receiver.

SOURCE: Component out doesn't work on Denon AVR-3805

You can try resetting the unit, it is a procedure that can make things start working again. Be aware that it will put all settings back to factory defaults, and you will need to go thru and set everything back up again. If it does not work, then you most likely have a component failure that will require serious electronic troubleshooting and this would be best done by a professional.

Here is the reset procedure.

1. Turn power off with the main power switch on the front display, this should make the red led go out. There are 2 power switches on these Denon's. One is a bigger switch and is used most often, the other is a small mechanical switch that is normally left turned on at all times.

2. Hold down the "Direct" and "Pure Direct" buttons together (both at the same time) and while holding them down you turn the power back on again with that little power switch you just turned off.

You should see all the lights in the display light up and then it will turn on to the default setting which, if my memory is right, will be the tuner at it's lowest setting.

Then go thru and reset everything back the way you like it and need it. Make sure that all the video inputs are properly set for each function so you are not trying to get a composite signal out of a function that may be set for S-video or something like that.

Hope this is some help for you.

SOURCE: denon avr 3805 2 zone configuration, I added

Zone 2 needs an analog input to work, if you pulled the analog from tivo, put it back on. Digital will not pass on zone 2. If your analog is still connected as well, go into your receivers settings for audio and select "auto" not "digital" Check the settings on tivo as well. make sure it's audio output is set to "auto" if available. If it's not, it's default is "auto" and will output simeltaneously on all outputs. Hope this helps. If you need more help, post a comment and I will help some more.

Digital Coaxial not working on DVD player

There might be several problems. As the projector has component only connections and the DVD player none, then if the Receiver has component out, you can hook it up to that. If the receiver has HDMI inputs then you can connect the DVD player via the HDMI socket to it. The Coax sockets on the DVD player will be for sound. Number one should be connected to Digital coax 1 and assigned for it.
It's possible that the sound on the DVD player is switched off on the coax or has the wrong format selected. You will need to see the player's menu for this, so if you can't see the screen using the projector, connect a TV instead.
However if the receiver has no component out and no HDMI sockets you will have real problems connecting the DVD and using the projector with it. Though you should be able to hear the sound via the Denon.

Denon AVR 1610 hdmi to component video conversion missing?

hello i believe your problem is that you are trying to downconvert from hdmi to component connections and Denon receivers will not do that.

I have a 4310 and I know it will UPconvert from an analog signal to HDMI but won't do it the other way around.

you may have to use component inputs for all your equipment. You will also have to go into the receivers menu and designate which signal is being used for each component as it won't auto select between analog and digital signals when it comes to video.

hope that helps

No video

The Denon does not down scale you can not plug a DVD or other device in to the Denon using HDMI and have it come out Component, if your projector only has Component video inputs you must use Component video connections from the DVD and Cable box to the Denon

How to connect BLU-RAY DVD player to Pioneer Plasma TV via HDMI

The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.

Connect and Enjoy
