Crack on glass top stove

Besides someone sitting on top of the stove, what else can cause the glass to actually crack. The crack traveled, but did not hit any of the other burners. Is this repairable or should I just go and buy a new stove?

    After I posted this the crack actually traveled to most of the cooking area. I only have one burner to cook on. I just decided I am going to buy a new stove. There are actually good sales going on. Thank you Huum and the FixYa team!!!!

    SEARS has had the best Sales since NOVEMBER
    They gave away a frond load washer ans dryer 2 weeks ago for $600. YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    The washer sells on sale for $698.
    BOTH PC's THEY DID for under cost. $600.
    This was I'm sure to convince everyone to do Christmas shopping for everything else there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only a couple things would cause this First if it is to tight in the opening. Next is there was a small crack on the edge somewhere and when it heated up or the slightest vibration expanded it similar to a small chip in a windshield that grows over time.This could easily happen during installation if not being very careful. And finally is a defect in the material, This is probally unlikely but possible look at the glass very carefully for flaws. If you find any see if LG will repair for free.

Cracked glass top stove. is it covered under a waranty? it is maybe 4 years old. brought at sears its a whirlpool stove.
whirlpool offers a five year warranty on glass cooktops for thermal damage only not for customer mishaps so call a certified repair place and they can get you a new cooktop if you tell them that it is thermal cracking

Ceramic glass stove is cracked
HI
You should be able to replace the top only.
Normally if this is your fault, it is not covered by warranty. Normally this would be if you dropped something onto it. This would leave like a star shap series of cracks.
If its down to manufacture, this should be covered under warranty. This damage normally looks like just one long crack, no impact mark.
Check with the manufacturer

My Magig Chef Glass Rangetop
This part can cost over $400. It is usually not worth fixing. NEVER operate the stove with a cracked top. This is tempered glass and it can just explode! It is also a dangerous electrical issue. Liquid can drip down through the crack and contact the live open element.
