Turning off the closed captioning without the remote.
I acquired a philips real flat tv, model # 20pt6245/37, second hand and without its original remote control and with the closed captioning turned on. I've tried a couple of universal remotes but I can't seem to find one which will turn the closed captioning off. I'm told by Philips that the original remote is required to fix the problem, that the television menu won't do the trick (which is a fact I well exhausted), but they don't have any in stock and I can't seem to find one elswhere. I was wondering if there was any other solution, perhaps in the television itself or by a specific universal, that would provide a solution.

I just checked and your specific remote is available on eBay for between $15 and $35. Just search the model number.
If you don't like eBay then consider a Logitech Harmony remote. They are easy to program and they will have all the functionality of your original remote including menu functions. I have two Logitech Harmony One remotes and there isn't a single thing I can't do that the stock remotes can do better. They are sold at Amazon, Tigerdirect, Walmart, Bestbuy, and just about any other electronics store.
U must have the tv original rmote.U have the tv original remote wright?Yes,look at the tv remote carefully for a button that said CC this button sit between the MTS and the DISPLAY buttons second row of buttons near the bottom of the remote.Pushes the tv remote CC button a couples of times u will get like CC1,2,3 so on 1,2,3 so on will give Closed Captioning if the tv programming offer it.If u don't have the tv original remote.Try website like Remotes.com to buy the tv original remote.I have one of this tv too.
Used the tv front bazel frame manual control buttons, get into the tv menu look for Colse Captioning funnctions turn off all cc to off.Very difficult to turn Close Captioning off, without a remote.Try website like Rmotes.com to buy an original remote.
I have direct tv, and had the same problem. After an hour on the phone with the worthless tech, I gave up. Finally I figured it out. First of all do you have closed caption problems or is it "subtitles". mine turned out to be direct tv subtitles, not closed caption. I hit the yellow button on the direct tv remote, and presto. Subtitles was set to the on position. changed it to off, and what do you know. fixed.
Find a button on the tv manual control said Menu, press it. Goto tv menu find and turn off all CC1,2,3 and text 1,2,3.U should have no more closed caption.
Noway to turn off captioning right away without the original remote. But U can unplug the tv for an hour,tv well reset itself back to original setting. The Captioning will shut off buy itself.Because captioning reqiure CC buttion on orignal remote and must manually turn on and off.
If you dont have the original remote, its going to be kinda hard, as universals wont work on this funtion on this set. The original remote has a button marked "CC" toward the bottom of the remote. Maybe you can borrowe on from a friend or a local sales store just so you can turn off the closed caption.. You can purchae a replace remote that is exactly the same as the original at http://www.remotes.com and enter your model number.
