Hello, air conditioners will freeze either due to low airflow.....such as dirty filter, dirty evaporator coil, weak or not running blower motor. Also, a low refrigerant charge can cause the unit to freeze up.

Quite true >air conditioners will freeze due to low airflow.....such as dirty filter, dirty evaporator coil, weak or not running blower motor.
Only one thing to add. Most evaporator (inside-cold air) fans are squirrel cage types. This type is adversely affected by dirt. A very small amount of dirt on the "cage" can cause a huge reduction in airflow leading to freeze up. In room air conditioners the evaporator fan is almost always hard to get to for cleaning.
Solution 1. Pull unit out, take outside and clean evaporator fan with coil cleaner or soap solution. Keep water out of thermostat compartment and away from blower motor. Rinse repeatedly until clean. Be careful not to damage any Styrofoam under the evaporator and around the squirrel cage.
Solution 2. Pull unit, take outside and remove evaporator fan. That's the squirrel cage right behind the coils that get cold. A little or a lot of dis-assembly may be required. You may need "long reach" allen wrenches and penetrating oil to get the squirrel cage hub set screw loose. If you have not done this before expect to spend a lot of time.

2005 Mustang Convertible GT. AC blows cold air for a while then just slowly quits. I've had the refrigerant charged but it still happens.

Sounds like the ac system is freezing up, they are supposed to cycle the compressor on and off the keep the pressures in spec to prevent this but failed cycling switches and or overcharged or undercharged Freon can also cause this. When the ac quits pop the hood and look at the ac lines, is one of them covered in ice? If so it's definitely freezing up. Finding out why is the fun part.

Armana APN14K-E portable AC freezes up

Lack of air flow or a lack of refrigerant are the two primary reasons why coils freeze. Clean the filter and the coil, if frost continues it is likely low on refrigerant.

The ac unit freezes up when it gets really hot and humid out and the ac blows hot air. what would cause this problem? it seems like the unit is freezing up and getting too hot and not allowing itself to...

This is caused by the low pressure AC compressor cycling switch, it is a very cheap part and located in the larger of the two AC lines coming from the AC compressor.

AC freezes up after running two hours.

If it actually is freezing up,the low pressure switch is the likely cause. It is screwed into the large ac line near the firewall, witch is the cold line.If it is not there it is in the dryer, near the firewall,or under the air filter box.Follow the ac line(large ac line/hoses)from the ac compressor untill you come to the switch, that is the easy way to locate it.This low pressure switch causes the ac compressor to cycle on and odd according to the pressure sensed from the ac low side line. When it gets really cold the pressure is lowered, and there for it will cut off,and when the pressure rises,it cuts the ac compressor back on.It would be a really good idea to check the freon in the vehicle first. If the ac system is low on freon,it will freeze up on some vehicles.

AC not producing cool air

If this is a newer system there will be a freeze sensor. It may be low on refrigerant. I would check the obvious things first. Are the filters and coils free of debris? Finally only set the temperature to your comfortable temp not lower as this can cause freezing too (generally not below 70 degrees)
