You didn't say how old your TV is. If it's very old the picture tube could be weak. IF not then there is a screen adjustment on the flyback transformer that you might try to adjust. Sometimes you can access this adjustment without removing the back cover. If you see an adjustment through a hole in the back of the cabinet marked "SCREEN" then you might try turning this control clockwise while watching the picture in a mirror. Only a slight adjustment may be needed. Don't make it too bright or the set may shut down or have small white (retrace) lines in the picture. If you have a projection TV then dust on the three picture tube lenses will darken the picture. These are general statements that apply to different TV's. I assumed that this is a direct view 32 in. Screen is dark and almost unwatchable when watching dark sceens adjusting brightness does not help

Unplug the tv and take the particle board cover off the back of the tv. Abive the chassis, you will see a panel with 2 gold screws in in... it is an access to the tube lenses. Remove this panel and sneak your hand and a soft cloth up in there. Wipe the dust off the top of the lenses. See if this helps, best wishes.

Good day,

There is an adjustment on the rear portion of your units flyback. It controls the screen brightness. Check out on this.

Dark picture (HELP)

Open up the back of the set but be very carefull. Notice a large black block with a large red wire that runs up to the picture tube. on one side of that large block where the thick red wire is comming out of are two controls, one should be marked focus or F and one should be marked screen or S. With the set operating normally and not touching anything else, slowly turn the control marked screen or S clockwish till the picture gets bright enough. If you go too bright the set will shut down or you see small thin white lines so back down on the control. then touch up the focus and your good to go. good Luck.

Toshiba 35A44 - Dark picture on all channels and DVD's

for this brightness problem actually came out from flyback transformer...so, before you spend and waste your money, try to adjust at back of your tv first. But if you aren't an expert, better ask technician to do because that transformer supply a very high voltage....there's two adjustment point at flyback transformer, one point for focus and the other one for brightness! try first...
