Panasonic PV-DV103 Mini DV Digital Camcorder Logo
Andrew Henry Posted on Mar 12, 2007

Panasonic PV-DV103D I have a Panasonic PV-DV103 that is giving me grief. The power light flickers twice, pauses 10 secs, flickers twice, etc. It does this about 6 times and then powers off. During this time the camera will not record or play any recorded tape. The camera doesn't give any warning messages as to what is going on. The only thing is the two blinks of the power light to give a clue. It does this only when a tape is in the machine. It does this in VCR and Camera mode both. With no tape in the camera, power light is solid and will not power down. I have read other problems linking something to a Dew Indicator, but mine never gives any indicator of a dew warning. What else could it be? I have never cleaned the heads, but not certain that could be the problem either. Any help is appreciated.

My Camcorder PD-DV 103D, have a problem with the Tape compartiment, Doesn't work, do not close......

  • Anonymous May 24, 2009

Had the same problem. Mine started out as a tape eject problem, and then moved to having trouble doing ANYthing with the tape. All functions not involving the tape worked fine, but play, record, rewind, fast-forward, none of those worked.

Thank you Abrazenvixen, your solution was much appreciated. I ended up sending mine in the first time it did this, and having to pay for them to tell me they couldn't find anything wrong, but at least it worked (because they took it all apart - which fixed the problem). Soooo very happy I didn't have to pay for it again!

This is actually a problem with the ribbon cable. When the tape is put in and the tape door is pushed shut it jars the internal ribbon cable. Years ago I found this tip online & it fixed it!

Quote
"Ok, here goes, I had the exact same problem on my pos Panasonic pv-dv203d. After many times of taking it apart and many frustrating calls to Panasonic, I've finally figured it out, I hope it helps on your cameras.

Remove the bottom plate from the Camera (four screws, plus one near the LCD screen).

Pop off the bottom plate of the camera

Look at the ribbon cables carefully, and make sure they are all snug in the plugs. The tape transport mechanism may move them out of place."

Every now and then our will start to act up & hubby unscrews the bottom of the camcorder (Panasonic PV-DV203D), gently maks sure the ribbon cables are in place, replaces the bottom plate & it's worked for us every time. i hope this helps!

I have done the same as Abrazenvixen. Irecently did the same thing the second time. My Panasonic PVDV103D makes a clicking noise when I turn it on. When this happens, I removed the bottom panel and gently push the ribbon cables into the electronic boards. So far this has solved the problem a couple of times. It happens about once a year.

Hi! I have posted some tips on how to do this but in case you dont see it well here it is. Just play with the camcorder. Turn it off and on and try recording or try to see something until it works. I have done this with mine and it finally worked. good luck

100 % Cure - Change the internal battery, you can find that below AV out jack, pull it out and replace it with a new one. I have seen this happening twice to my camcorder. It seems you, just like me seldom use it.

Lost Cable

These are generally a standard mini to Firewire cable, available at many retailers, take your camera with you and look at the available cables. Panasonic has them for sale as well.
