SOURCE: Memory Card Error

Sounds like the camera does not support SDHC. Check manual to see if this camera supports high capacity SD cards.

I assume that you know that there is a tiny tiny on-off switch on the edge of each SD card. If they are locked in the off position....

SOURCE: I have a Cannon Powershot A430....Message is

The card's filing system has likely become corrupted. This usually occurs with time if the card was never formatted for the camera. It will work at first, but this eventually happens. But this can be corrected. First of all, you'll probably want to recover the photos that are already on the card. For this you'll need recovery software (plenty of freeware available):

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/recovering-those-accidentally-lost.html

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Acard+reader&sort=price

AFTER you've recovered the photos, format the card in your camera to prevent this from happening again (dig out that instruction manual to figure out how). For Canon cameras, normally just go to the tools menu, select the item stating the card's capacity, and then follow the on-screen prompts to format (select "low-level" if asked). BUT keep in mind formatting will also totally erase your card, so again only do this after you've recovered the photos!

What does "memory card error" mean

It usually means that you are using an SDHC card in a camera that only understands SD cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

If that isn't the problem, it may mean that your card needs formatting or has become corrupted, which will be fixed by formatting it. Formatting deletes everything on the card.

If that isn't the problem, then there may be a fault with the card or camera.

The camera screen is 'write protected' and camera dont work and am unable to fix the anomaly

It isn't the screen that is write protected but the memory card.

Your memory card is an SD type. These cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

Error on formating new memory card in camera error says memory card is full brand new card i tried 2 in faact same error kodak c310

The lever on your SD card might be turned the wrong way so the SD card is reading protective.
Please turn the lever and try again.

The SD card might not be supported by the model: Your camera Memory card support is SD/MMC up to 2 Gigabyte and SDHC up to 8 Gigabyte

The SD card might not be faulty, try another card, since the camera could give you a message like the one you're experiencing.
Try with a different SD card that is supported by the camera.

Memory card error.

SanDisk is a manufacturer of memory cards. SD card means 'Secure Digital'. There are many types of memory cards, SD being the most popular. You should be able to format your memory card in-camera. Insert your memory card into your camera, making sure that the little switch on the side of the card is in NOT in the 'locked' position. Then go into your camera menu and select 'format memory card'. After that you should be ready to take pictures...

My camera (Canon S400) says "Memory card Error" and will not allow me to take any pictures.

When a canon S400 displays a memory card error this means that it has experienced an anomaly. This means that you have to reformat the memory card. You can do this via the menu. Make sure that you backup the pictures on it using a CF card reader on your computer
