Please help. When I turn on my camera my screen/view is blurred. Not in a blurry person kind of way - but like a psychedelic kind of way. Blurry lines of purple and blue. I can't even see that person or thing I am trying to take a picture of. I changed batteries and still nothing. I tried downloading a picture of it but it won't read it as a picture. It's hard to describe, but as I move the camera around it just drags the colors around and you can't see anything. Thank you so much.
Hi everyone, I was able to use the link above to Cannon and actually called Cannon to speak to someone about this. I was able to send the camera back (shipping paid by Cannon!) And they fixed it at NO CHARGE!!! Yahoo!! Thank you all SOO much for your help. It's like I have a brand new camera! If you are still having this problem - CALL CANNON. If I have to buy any more cameras - I'll stick with Cannon. Great support!
It is amazing how the problem starts for all of us around the same time lol... yes mine has just started doing this also ... im looking into the canon website to see what the recall is about.. that would be fantastic if they will fix it ... I have only had the camera 2yrs now and it does a fantastic job for what i need.... good luck all.. Anne Melb
My screen is doing that too!!
I think it is the wireing. It did that before and then went back to normal for a few months and now it has that exact same screen and seems to be getting worse. The purple and pinkish colors are now a faded bluish purple.
I've had my camera for two years i think. And just in the past few months it has been having problems. When the screen is normal, it sometimes has horizontal lines that jump around on the screen.

I am getting the same problem now. This is exactly the same problem they ask for recall. Follow this link to get free fix from canon USA. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8776
Readers should be aware that Canon (and possibly other camera manufacturers) have recently announced various recalls (with free repairs and prepaid shipping) for CCD problems. Even if your camera is several years old and not in warranty, you might be entitled to a free repair. If you Canon camera has failed for any reason, or especially if it has image problems, check out the Canon website in your country. In the USA, go to the Canon USA website, select your camera model, and click on the "Service" link. Here is a direct link that worked in June 2006 (Enter it all on one line): http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro... Or simply telephone Canon technical support (dial directory assistance) and ask about camera recalls. You'll need your make, model, and serial number.
Do these lines follow horizontal and vertical paths, or are they sweeping even curves? If the lines are curved then your LCD screen has gotten cracked and will have to be replaced. If the lines follow straight horizontal or vertical paths then it is most likely the connection between the screen and the control board or the wiring itself connecting to the LCD. If none of these describe what you are talking about it is possible that your imaging CCD has failed or its connection to the control board is faulty. If this is the case you would see a generally normal looking image except the colors would be all wrong, looking very much like a color film negative or missing certain tones entirely. Thank you so much for your help. I didn't think the picture loaded but I found it on my computer.
Here is what it looks like on the display and when you take a picture.
Any advice - even 'buy a new one' would be helpful.
Do you have any idea if if would just be cheaper to get a new one?
Thanks so much!
