The thing to remember is that the primer pulls fuel from the carb into the bulb and dumps back to the tank, it does not push fuel into the carb, connect the fuel line from the tank to the carb connection nearest to the alluminium pump cover held with a single screw, the other one goes to the shorter of the two connections on the back of the primer.

Yes, you are right. The larger line goes to the primer bulb and only goes into the tank about an inch. The coupling just keeps the line from pulling out of the tank. The smaller line goes to the carb. This line must rest comfortably on the bottom of the tank with the filter attached to the end.

SOURCE: GAS LINE PROBLEM

Hi this is the way it should go: 1 from the filter in the tank to the bottom of the carby,2 from the top of the carby to the inlet on the primer,3 from the outlet on the primer back to the tank as this is the return line nothing goes onto it.

SOURCE: Which fuel line "port/inlet" on the Walbro wt-380

Usually the line with the filter on it that comes from the tank goes to carb. inlet first which is most likely close to the bottom side of the carb.nearest to the engine, then the outlet or return line on the carb.goes to the inlet side of the primer and the outlet side of the primer goes back to the tank. The primer draws fuel through the carb to the primer to the tank if its not? then correct the line connections until it does

SOURCE: replace fuel lines,craftsman weedwacker,

Fuel filter in tank with line going directly to the fuel pump side of the carburetor This is the end of the carb with a solid cover. . This line should have length in it inside the tank where it can flop around and stay on the bottom to collect fuel. The other line in the tank should have one of the little connectors on it and can be right up to where the hole in the tank is to hold it there.. This line should connect to purge/primer bulb on the longer outlet nipple. Another fuel line should run from the metering chamber side of the carb (the end with the hole in the cover) to the purge/primer bulb with the shorter outlet nipple.
The purge bulb "pulls" fresh fuel out of the tank via a vacuum created after depressing the bulb and the fresh fuel flows completely thru the carb and any air or old fuel ahead of it are drawn to the purge bulb which then "pushes" this mixture back to the fuel tank.

A friend helped me with my first carb cleaning and now I have gas pumping out of one of the line in the back carb. the one by the battery. My first bike!: one line is a vent line? and one a fuel line?...

Your float bowl is over filling due to a needle valve issue. You can try gently tapping the carb with a plastic hammer via wood dowel rod. If this doesn't unstick the valve then the carb has to come off and you need to recheck the needle valve.

The needle valve is what the float pushes against when the fuel level is correct. It is easy to damage by placing pressure on the float pressing against the valve. These valves are usually a neoprene or rubber like material. Some bikes have brass tips though.

Lastly there may be dirt in the fuel tank and that is causing the valve not to close. If so a fuel filter inline to the carbs is one way to deal with the issue.

Hi Sirs, I have a Poulan Woodshark model 1950. The gas lines deteriorated and I bought new ones, together with the primer bulb and the chain. Now I can't remember how to connect the lines. I need help....

The fuel line from the tank with the filter on the end goes to the carb inlet, closest to the metering cover usually a chrome cover held with four screws, the other conection on the carb goes to the suction side of the primer bulb, normally the shorter of the two conections, the pressure side of the primer goes back to the tank, this pipe just sits in the tank to act as a return, just remember the primer pulls fuel from the carb, into the bulb, and back to the tank.

The primer bulb on my Troy-bilt TB20CS will press in but it doesn't feel like it's pulling in fuel. Earlier after filling the gas tank, I noticed a little gas was leaking, and saw that the tube...

Or it could be like mine. I turned it upside down to take the cover off (Troy Bilt) to clean the air filter. Put it back together and the primer won't fill. Also it looked like air was coming into the bulb from the carb. Weird, since it was filling just a minute ago. Turns out the fuel lines in the tank were dry rotted. When I emptied the fuel tank, bits and pieces of fuel line came out along with several washers and a weight that goes on the end of the hose. Looking inside I saw a hose not connected to anything. Pulled it out and it came out in pieces (kept breaking when I'd grab it). That's why it's not connected to anything! Also why it won't prime or start. Probably also why it was getting to where it didn't run very well, and only on the A choke setting. It would cost almost as much to fix as to buy a new one. Bummer. For $90 though, if lasted five years. Maybe if I change the lines earlier on the next one I can even get more life out of it.

normally the line from the tank with the filter goes to the pump nipple of the carb, then the other nipple on carb by needle/seat side goes to suction side of primer, and the other one at primer goes to gas tank. what this does it pulls fuel through the carb when you prime it, and excess goes back into tank(return line) at primer, so when you prime it you should see fuel coming out through the line that goes to tank with out filter. good luck

Craftsman riduing tractor turns over but won't

If you have spark and compression, the only thing left is fuel.

Check that fuel is being deluvered to the carb (remove fuel line to carb and make provision to catch ejected fuel. Crank engine. Fuel should be pumped from the tank and out the open line at a good rate.

If this checks out (or there is no pump fitted, but there is fuel issuing from the pipe), check the electrical connector on the bottom of the carb. There should be battery voltage on this conection for the engine to run - if not - that's the problem.

If that checks out, the cut-off solenoid (fed by the connection you just checked) is suspect.

Fuel Line Replacement by SmallEng.com

  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, the output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill the bulb as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.
Take lots of notes and a few digital photographs will help with reassembly. HTH

Replacing fuel tank on craftsman edger and other fuel lines.......do not understand where to hook fuel lines back up?  any diagrams?

ok If you have a Walbro WT series carb "without" a built on primer bulb here it is. First off if the fuel lines disintegrated you MUST disassemble it and clean it out. The MOST infintesimle speck of gas line trapped, can allow good prime and bad operation. OK? Don't be lazy on this. Just be delicate removing the flaps gasket and diaphram. ZAMA GND-12 Is the replacement Gasket and diaphram kit fot that carb. Use a cleaner, compressed air or blow good thru it. OK Now...Primer bulb, Carb, and Fuel tank, re connects: Smaller Diameter line comes from Gas tank (Connect filter screen to this in tank) to the short Straight brass carb connector. Primer bulb suction goes to the bent carb brass connector. If small line brings fuel "in" this other line sucks it back "Thru the primer bulb" and the blow side of the primer bulb sends it back to the fuel tank! So...Small Line brings fuel "TO/IN" carb thru short brass connect on carb. Other carb connect goes to bulb suction "IN", Then primer bulb "Pressure OUT" goes thru the larger tube "back to fuel tank". Trust me I know how frustrating a simple diagram is to find online fo this set up. And if you have a carb problem on top of the hook up uncertainty you got frustration. Not only was online help hard to find (Mfg...etc NFG at all!) My local repairshop in BBrook NJ could not tell me how!!! and thats no lie! Walbro has a "generic" carb diagram but no "hook up info" specifically. Poulan don't list it either. And these things routinly fall to pcs. all 3 of mine crumpled together on yr. 3 of use.

Ryobi 700r gas trimmer, replace old fuel lines

Line from tank with the filter on it is the supply line and goes to the carb inlet fitting. This is typically on the "bottom" of the carb (with the tank being up) and will usually have a fitting with barbs or a bulge on it to ensure a tight fit. The other fitting on the carb is the return line and is usually a straight tube fitting with no barbs. That line goes the suction side of the primer bulb. The third line goes from the outlet of the primer bulb to the return barb fitting in the bottom of the tank. Fittings have to be removed from tank to properly install the new hoses on them. Remove retainer ring on outide of tank and push fittings into tank, then shake out of the fill opening. More details on replacing hoses are listed in another post about Repairing Ryobi trimmer.

To leemineres, if hoses are on right and unit still stalls after starting initially you probably need to disassemble carb and clean out using spray carb cleaner. May be sticky needle valve, or partially plugged port or jet.Could also be hole in diaphragm. Gasket and diaphragm kit would be good to add when you take apart, even if diaphragm does not have a hole.
