The composite inputs on my Denon receiver output sound but no video. I bought this item brand new and the inputs have always acted this way (I'm not sure if its actually broken or not). I try connecting an ORIGINAL xbox console via each input and there is no picture, but there is sound. My receiver is connected to my TV via hdmi cable. I'm not sure if that's part of the issue. I can plug the xbox console into the TV directly and both the picture and sound come through just fine. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
I'm having the same problem with my Wii output. The manual for the Denon AVR-1312 says that analog video signals (i.e. component/composite outputs from the Wii) are not converted to digital video signals (i.e. HDMI output from the rcvr). I'm running only HDMI to a projector, so the video signal is essentially lost. The fix appears to be to run an additional composite cable all the way to the projector. Sounds like your fix is the same. No Wii tonight! :(

Get some audio cables from radio shack or gamestop and use the regular audio jacks on the xbox to connect to your receiver. Your video will be HD, but your audio won't.

Make sure the two switches on the remote are all of the way to left most position before you try using the SYSTEM SETUP button - if the AVR is going into SETUP, the LCD display should be saying "SYSTEM SETUP". (I think that model does - most do). also make sure that the Composite or S-Video on the TV's input 1 work from something else like a VCR, DVD player, ETC. rule out the TV and the cable first.

It will not work. This unit can not convert video signal from component to s-video. Use the same type of connections on DVD and TV.

After days of frustration the real problem was with the cable box. It needed a firmware update. Following forum advice I disconnected the cable box power cord for a few minutes, reconnected it, allowed the cable box to reinitialize. Turned off receiver and TV. Turned TV back on and set it to HDMI connection, turned on receiver and all worked fine. Great picture and sound.( Needed to buy an optical cable to go from the cable box to the receiver to get sound from the speaker system. )--the dirtybird

Long and painful answer!!! However, in the end, you need to bypass HDMI thru your receiver and go direct to the TV. Connect Digital Coaxial or Optical for audio to your receiver. Your version of HDMI in your receiver is not compatable with today's HDMI version. Yours is 1.1a and the current version is 1.3b going to 1.4. If you want detailed info as to "why", just google "HDMI 1.1 problems" you can read for hours! Sorry for the bad news! However, it is what it is. Hope this helps. If you need further help with setup, post a comment and I can give you further help.

Whenever I connect anything with a composite cable (red, white, yellow), sound comes through but video does not. Is my receiver broken?
