SOURCE: trying to restore dell 4400 and cannot get to a dell screen for f-12

If you boot from the XP CD and choose the first repair option it will load to a DOS prompt. From there type "chkdsk /r" and press enter. This will run checkdisk on your hard drive and repair any problems that it finds. It will take 45 minutes or more depending on the size of your drive. Once it finishes type exit to reboot and remove the CD. Your computer should boot normally.

My sansui pc/tv monitor isn't working properly when I connect it to my desktop.

Windows is likely crashing while loading recently upgraded device drivers. The most common culprits for this scenario are video drivers.

The next time you boot, as soon as you see the Dell splash screen, start tapping the F8-key about once every second until you see a white on black menu. If you see the Windows logo, you missed it (try again, this time start tapping the F8-key a little before the Dell splash screen).

This menu will allow you to boot Windows in "Safe Mode", which will bypass any non-essential drivers and applications that could be causing the crashing. Select "Safe Mode with networking".

Assuming the computer booted fine in Safe Mode, you will be able to remove the troublesome drivers. You will see an informational message about Safe Mode, which you may close at any time. Right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage". Wait a moment for the Computer Management window to appear. Then, click on "Device Manager". If Windows was able to identify the faulty driver, it will appear in the list with a bright-yellow triangle. If this is the case, right-click and "uninstall" it. If it did not show up, first click the tiny white triangle next to "Display Adapters" and "Monitors" to open those categories. Then, right-click and "uninstall" everything listed within the two categories. Your computer will probably boot normally after doing this. But, try and find the proper driver for you video adapter before rebooting if possible. I recommend also re-installing the chipset drivers which may be related to the problem.

I think you answered your own question--the computer works well with other monitors, but not this one.
I would suspect that this one is bad.
You might try to do this: Start the computer in safe mode and see if your monitor is reacting to video settings that are beyond it's capability (although if this is the case it should tell you it's out of range).
If it works in safe mode, try resetting the resolution to see if it will work with the new monitor (I seriously doubt that this is the problem).

Hi there!

After trying to load to you windows XP does it give you any error message? If not, have you tried to remove unnecessary things that is plugged in to your computer for example printer, mp3 something like that just leave the monitor, keyboard and mouse plugged in then try to start the computer. If it's still not working and you have tried to access safe mode already then you'll need to back all the files in your computer because there's a high chance that you might need to reformat it.

Hope this helps!

It's a dell monitor e2010h and it starts up then runs post op then it goes into a black screen and a cursor

That is the computer problem, try booting in safe mode to see it works OK, if it does, you can try uisng system restore to take it back the known working date before the problem start.

Hit F8 key while booting up if you use XP.

Can't get anything on my monitor but 'out of frequency range' But I can't get anything on the monitor to be able to get into the computer to reset the frequency. Help

Restart the computer. As soon as the bios start screen displays, start hitting F8, about once a second. You will eventually get the windows start menu. Use "Last known good..." or VGA mode. Last known good should do it. If not, VGA mode will allow you to get into windows and change your resolution settings, then reboot and get back to work.

Dell monitor goes into power save mode immediately

The burners may have nothing at all to do with this. Try the monitor on another computer (a laptop will do) if you have one. If the problem perists with the monitor, then the moniitor has failed. If the monitor works on another computer, or you do not have another to try, then start the computer and tap the F-8 key to boot to safe mode. If that gets you a display, then fix the display settings, also check the device manager for any signs of hardware trouble, and make any corrections that may be needed, and reboot. If safe mode does not get you a display, try disconnecting the new hardware. If still no joy, I'd say it's the monitor.

UltraSharp 19' Screen will not autoadjust.

Start in SAFE mode (press F8 wile booting) and choose Last Known Good to see if it works in Windows DEFAULT setting.

My guess is that MSoft pushed a patch or SP to your box and IT replaced the dll your monitor was using.

Goto www.support.dell.com and DL the correct drivers again

Good Luck!
