My condensor fan and compressor on my Carrier AC (Model# 38ckc036350) stopped working, so I replaced my capacitor and they both work fine now. The problem is my house won't cool down. There is c

    Touch the two copper pipes, the smaller one should be very warm and the pipe with insulation should be cold with condensation. Let me know

    The small pipe is warm and the big pipe is cold.

    A set of gauges will need to be attched to the unit to observe the operating pressures.

Often after a repair has been made, the air conditioner will take hours to readjust back to normal. When the system has been off for to long, not only does the heat in the house rise, but so does the humidity, which has to be pulled out of the air first before it really starts dropping in temp. You could have a low charge on refrigerant, dirty filters, etc. More than once I have ran into things that were just coincidence after a repair that showed up. Since you just replaced the capacitor, I would make sure the fan motor is turning in the right direction and there is nice air flow coming out of the condenser, some times if one wire is wrong, it can cause it to spin backwards, which will work, but just barely. The air needs to be pulled through the coils, not pushed. Hope this helps!

Compressor just stopped working, does not cyle on for cooling

1. Is there high voltage(240 volts) power to the condensing unit?
2. Is there low voltage(24 volts) to the contactor?
3. Is the contactor pulled in and allowing 240 volt power thru?
4. Does the capacitor look burned or misshapen, is the top of the capacitor domed up?
If so the capacitor is bad and needs replacing.
If you have all the above items and the capacitor is good(the condensor fan should be running) and the compressor is still not running, then you need a professional to diagnose why the compressor is not running.

Hi, I have an older mobil home with a Colman AC

Your unit uses both the capacitor and a contactor (relay) to start your compressor and motor. With the indications you are giving it would either be the capacitor or the contactor - and since you have already changed the cap - then replace the contractor!

NOTE: We always recommend that you change the capacitor and relay at the same time, because they seem to fail at about the same time.

I have an intertherm furnace and the circuit board burnt up...replaced the board and the heat works fine....the a/c condensor comes on on cool but the fan will not come on

If you are talking about the fan motor on the condensor then I would check the start capacitor if it is an older model it should have a seperate capacitor in the elec. connection box for a/c condensor fan and compressor. Thank you.

Hi!

It sounds like the capacitor and/or compressor are quitting. Try getting a Start Capacitor of the same uF (I think 35 uF for Commpressor and 5 uF for fan motor) as the one you have, OR get a Start Kit from any AC parts shop for about $10 and hook it up in line with the old capacitor, if you have a two terminal capacitor plug the terminals one, on each end, if you have a 3 terminal called DUAL Capacitor, each terminal is stamped with the words FAN, HERM and the letter C for common, one lead goes in the C terminal and the other one goes on the HERM.

it sounds like the capacitor is shot there is usually a duel capacitor one side is for the compressor and the other side is for the condensor fan motor if it is bad the motor will over heat and turn off on internal overload

A/C not working, outside fan not turning without assistance

is fan spinning fast enough it has to have alot of velocity to cool condensor coils if you haft to push fan to get going its probably shot and get new motor the ac is a sealed system and hardly ever will leak freon!!!Best of Luck to You!!! :)

Replacement of air conditioner's compacitor

I am assuming this is a split system with the condensor outside and the air handler inside. What is the model of your unit? Is the capacitor a dual run capacitor? Is the compressor running? If the compressor is running and your condensor fan is not you need to immediately shut power off to the compressor or you will probably ruin your compressor. If the power went off due to a storm and you don't have power to the condensor fan did you check to see if the circuit breaker to the condensor was tripped. I would check that first. Even if the circuit breaker doesn't look like it tripped go ahead and flip it off and back on again. Even you suspect it is the capacitor you need to determine if it is a dual run (controls the compressor and the fan) or does it just run the fan? If it is a dual run capacitor you will have to get the numbers off the capacitor and try and find a match at the local hvac supplier. If you have a Grainger's in your city they probably will have a match. When working on your unit don't forget you are working with high voltage that can KILL you, If you don't know what you are doing call in a professional. If you decide to tackle it yourself make sure you turn off the power to both the inside unit and the condenser. I always pull the disconnects inside and outside, flip the circuit breakers and turn off the thermostat just to be safe. Then I double check by using my digital multi-meter to ensure the power is totally off. The capacitor stores power so you will have to discharge it by using an INSULATED screw driver and touching the blade across the terminals. Discharge the capacitor AFTER THE POWER IS SHUTOFF. Before you pull the wires off the capacitor terminals I suggest you make a drawing of where the wires are connected. You should have markings with a "C", "F" and "Herm". Even better, I like to take several digital pictures from different angles of the connections. After you remove the capacitor, I would suggest you take it with you to your hvac parts supplier so they can match it. Once you get the right replacement capacitor it is just a matter of connecting the wires back to the original configuration. Then restore the power by flipping the breakers, plugging the disconnects back in and turning the thermostat back on. Most units will not start up right away. They have a 5 minute delay built in to protect the compressor. Good luck and post back and let us know how it goes.
