Hi I have a supermicro x8sti Server Board inside

Basically you have two choices for installation of video card:
1. To purchase small form factor PCIe card suitable for installation on 1U server chasis or
2. Purchase PCI express riser card and to install most full-sized PCI Express cards (Check this link for PCI Riser )

My computer is displaying Alert! PCI Express card is operating in x1 mode. why?

Some Dell PC's PCI-E slot is version 1.0. New video cards are usually version
2.0 (maybe 1.1 or 1.0a ?). So they not work with 1.0 slot
at x16 speed and fall back to x1 speed automatically.

As far as I know there is no BIOS update, nor workaround to solve this
annoying behavior.

Dell e521 onboard network card will not register in system utilities and neither will any card put into pci slots. after much trial I did get the pci express slot to see a video card but even this is not...

Try cleaning your registry with Eusing free registry cleaner, and if that doesn't help try this, click start, control panel, performance and mainteneance, see basic information about your computer, the hardware tab, device manager, system devices, then double click your PCI bridge (name varies from motherboard to motherboard but it should have pci bridge in the name) then update driver, if the driver is currently up to date then roll back driver. Hope this helps, Daniel

Dell Inspiron ethernet card plug bad, either send tower to Dell for 3 weeks or replace and bypass with new ethernet card PCI, any problems with doing this?

There should not be any problem with you buying your own PCI ethernet card and install it yourself. They are not that expensive. www.newegg.com has on for only $7.99 and it will work fine in your computer. It does not need to be from Dell.

Installing NIC card to dell optiplex gx100

NICs usually come in PCI interfaces. motherboards have usually four PCI slots to hold many devices such as NIC. just slide the card and fit it into the PCI slot. It could take any of the slots where it fits. the OS will detect it and loads the necessary drivers.

Compatibility of PCI-EXpress card for Dell GX280 (Small Dextop)

So if this is a slimline pc you are kind of limited in upgrade options
space being the biggest , then being followed with cooling ability, the best advice I can give you if specs say 350 is needed i wouldn't chance having the card pull more of a load off of the PSU than what is rated for it. Hope this helps

I dont know if it will work, but you can always try to instal the vista drivers.
Dell says that Vostro A840 only comes with VISTA.

Good luck to you
