I just had this same problem. The seal is stuck and might have coffee jammed in it. I unplugged it. Then I pushed down on the lid and pulled up at the same time. It opened for me. I hope this helps.

The small hole in the pod tray is stopped up and causes the unit to vacuum seal. This can happened to me when I got a bag that had a lot of coffee dust. Give it a while (maybe as much as a day) for the vacuum to release some to get the top open. Clean the small whole on the pod tray - I think I used a needle when it happened to me.

The Phillips electronics web site says that pod tube is plugged and now a vacuum has been set up preventing you from opening. It says "unplug it; leave it at room temperature for 24 hours or longer and then try to open. It states you may have to apply a lot of force to get it open. Once you get open clean the pod tube regularly to prevent this from happening!!!!!! Only use recommended pods in the coffee maker. Go to

I had a same problem, but I managed it open without waiting 24 hours by turning and slightly pulling a small plug behind the water tank on the back side. (see the photo attached) I think it will let air goes in and release the vacuum seal. After I could open the lid, I turn the plug back and push it in as it was. Now, my Senseo is running perfectly again.

Place machine upside down in a bowl with about 2 inches (50cm) of hot water. Normal tap water temperature should do. Wait a few minutes then pull the lever. Hopefully the lid will open, mine did.

I just had the same problem and fix it.
Here what i did :
i sucked the water tunnel on the back side of the machine. ( you will unplug the plastic thing just by the hand)
P.S : watch out the water sucked may be a little bit hot , so it’s better to wait a little bit after the water get cold.
P.S_2 : im not gay for all that sucking things.

Why wont lid on my phillips senseo hd7863 close when the pod is in the holder ?

Maybe you inserted the pod with the wrong side up or you used a 2-cup pod in a single cup holder. If the clamping spring isn't working (the lid feels loose when you try to close it), that spring (that is nothing more than a straight piece of metal wire) needs to be replaced.

fill the unit up with a bottle of peroxide and let stand for an hour. It will soften the gronds to a muddy consistancy so it will flow out. Add water and brew in an hour. It will clean out the unit as well like new

Accidently left coffee pod in coffee pot while went on vacation now the machine smells really bad . tryed vinegar but nothing seems to help

Try the rinsing procedure that's in the manual, and use citric acid. The parts that usually come into contact with hot water or coffe can also be cleaned in a dish washer.

Lid is sealed shut and water is not being drawn from resovoir

it sounds like the pod holder is clogged, it has only one small hole to let out water. open up the machine in the sink as it will spray due to the water pressure. try the other pod holder first. if it works check the other one by holding it up to the light. if it is clogged clean the first one by using a pin to clear the hole.

Hmm. Better late than never. Just got home with ours. Same problem. Called Cuisinart 800 number. Catch is on top of handle. There is a slight lip on each side there. Pop it up with pressure on both sides simultaneously. To replace, line up lid carefully with top of carafe and press firmly until it pops back on.

Senseo stuck after using coffee pods that have "milk" built in....5 days later

I had the same problem. I waited for a while as the instruction says but didn't open. But, I got it open!!! by turning and slightly pulling a small plug behind the water tank on the backside. (remove the water tank then you'll see the little plug. see attached photos) I think it will let air in and vacuum seal get released. After it opened, I gently turned the plug back and push it in as it was. Now, it is running perfectly again. I just had a great coffee. :-)
