Radio was working fine, then the display back light started flashing on and off. sometimes stays on for extended periods of time sometimes stays off for extended periods of time. this is the 3rd or 4th express radio that has had the same problem.
Receivers can lose a backlight for a number of reasons. It could be a failing power source, or it could be a loose connection between the dock and the receiver. I would say that more often than not, it is simply the backlight going out. TSS Radio has a repair guy who can fix this issue in most cases. You just need to send an email to [email protected] Although, with an Xpress, it may not be worth it as you can replace the whole kit and the radio for just $14.99 here: http://www.tss-radio.com/products/xm-xpressez-receiver-and-car-kit
SOURCE: Delphi Roady XT Quit Working
This sounds like the problem I posted about the a/c adapter. The radio doesn't get enough power because the scr in the a/c adapter is failing.

Take your battery cover off, then take your battery out. Let it sit for 10-15 seconds, then put your battery back in and put the cover back on. It should work fine. Mine did the same thing over a month ago, and it works fine now with no problems again. I CAN SEE!!!! yeah.
SOURCE: When I press the power button the screen flashes
I had exactly the same problem with my Roady XT. The power supply gradually failed, with the symptom that the reception kept getting weaker and more spotty. Finally, the Roady would not turn on. The screen flashed as you describe. I happened to have another 5VDC, 2A power supply in the closet from some other electronic gismo from the past (I save the power supplies just in case). the connector on the old power supply was not correct for the Roady XT, but a little surgery put the new plug on the old supply... (verified by a volt meter). When I plugged it in the Roady quickly turned on and showed full signal strength. This had never happened in 2 years of use. Apparently this radio needs more power than the stock power supply can provide. Now it "loads" stations in 2-3 seconds and never fades.
