350d canon, mirror flicking up and down when power is off

Anyone help with identifying this fault. Canon 350D powered off, even with the battery door open, yet as soon as a battery is inserted the mirror starts flicking up and down. The flicking wont stop until the battery is out of the camera or discharged. Closing the battery door will change nothing but occasionally the LCD will display ERR99. Otherwise no other signs of life, no movement from shutter. No lens attached. Many thanks for your interest.

SOURCE: Error 5 on Canon eos 350D

Hi there,

Well first of all you can try a full reset, Pull both batteries out -the normal one, and the date/time one. If your camera is older (>2 yrs), it may be time to replace that battery..... anyway Put a new one in, and then put in the freshly-charged main battery, that might clear the error. If further you have the same problem then something is causing the flash to stick. Press the button and pull gently on the flash. Post comments for more help or information needed.....

Good Luck!!

Err 99

Hello hemantp. This error code in this model indicates that the lens electrical contacts are dirty or slightly oxidized. To clean them you will need a common pencil with a clean eraser on the end and a lens cloth.

Detach the lens from the camera and hold it so that the lens' gold contacts are pointing down. Lightly "erase" their exposed surfaces and then clean them with the lens cloth to remove any debris.

Do the same with the gold contacts inside the camera body. Although this is a wee bit more challenging, you can do it by holding the camera so that the lens opening points down. That way no debris will fall inside as you clean. Joe

My canon rebel gave an error 99 and then lost all power. It won't power even with a fresh battery.

It is due to some kind of electrical contact failure.
For more details and common causes of Err 99 read the following article:

I can't see through my viewfinder

It maybe the case your mirror is stuck in the up position. Take the lens off and see if the mirror is lodged in its up position. If it is stuck get it repaired by a Canon technician

Canon digital rebel 350D

The first thing to check is that the card door and battery door are firmly closed - press on them while the camera is on to see if it powers up. If not, there's probably a blown fuse - it will have to go to the shop.
