I've replaced the ignition coil, fuel and fuel lines, disassembled the carb and cleaned it. The carbs metering valve, and gaskets look and apear to be in good working condition. It has 110 lbs of compression and what I'd consider a weak but consistant spark. Pressing and releasing the bulb moves the fuel and the fuel has just a trace of air in it. I've pulled the plug right after it quit running and it had a little fuel around the edge but nothing on top of the cylinder or near the gap.

Remove muffler and check for carbon blockage.
If that is ok check crankshaft seals for leakage.

I think there is a flake of something that goes to a right angle to fuel flow and causes the saw to starve. Once the flow abates it returns to the original position and everything is wonderful until flow lifts it again. Have you washed out the tank? Logic says against the filter or something in the carburetor.

The collective genius if these folk is hard to match. I recommend you do a search and post to an existing thread. That usually gets more help than creating a new thread. A search might even supply a few ideas neither one of us thought about.

Check for blue, snappy spark at the plug (gapped at 0.020"). If weak or nothing, remove the flywheel cover to expose the ignition module. Check the module gap with a thin business card--turn the flywheel magnets under the module poles, insert the card into the gap, loosen the module screws, and allow the module to contact the magnets, then tighten the screws. Turn the flywheel somewhat to remove the card. Recheck for spark--if ok, try for engine start. If still no spark, remove the ignition switch wire from the module and retry for spark. If still nothing, replace the module. Install per the above instructions. Hope this helps!

Who connected these hoses? the normal routing for a machine with a primer is like this, the fuel hose from the tank with the filter on the end goes to the carb fuel inlet nozzel ( not to the primer ) nearest to the pump cover ( cover on carb held with one screw ) the pipe from the metering side of the carb connects to the shorter nozzel on the primer bulb ( suction side ), the longer nozzel on the primer ( pressure side ) connects to the pipe going back to the tank, just remember the primer pulls fuel from the carb, into the bulb, and pushes it back into the tank, it is not actually a primer it is a purge. because it is connected this way it is impossible to flood the engine no matter how many times the bulb is pressed.
Let me know if it starts and runs.

On the carburetor got two screws to adjust the carburetor. The first is to adjust the saw when working at high speeds. Another is when running at low revs. It is best to either put back for about 1.5 cycle of the maximum of the end of the rotation of the screws. If then the saw starts, then you can adjust it fine at higher revs (H), then at low (L). Have can be minimum screw that stops the chain.
