LCD display is working but very dim and hard to see

The LCD clock on my microwave is suddenly extremely dim and difficult to see. It (and the microwave) are working, however the display is soo dim that it almost appears off. I have tried turning off the power and starting it again, and can't find any instructions in the manual. Any ideas?

This is a common failure of the control panel assemblies of these and similar microwaves. We repair these control panbel assemblies nationwide for only $32.50. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Before sending it in for repair, I would try using some electronic contact cleaner on all the connections on the circuit board. A dim LCD display could be a symptom of low voltage to the display (similar to what you see when a digital watch display dims) which could be caused by a resistive connection between the power supply and the panel.

The light bulb doesnt work in my sanyo microwave it is difficultbto see the clock and timings. Model EMC5796V UK2

You appear to be referring to the LCD/LED display above the touch panel, which is not a light bulb. If the panel display is dim it may be due to grime on the inside of the plastic transparent window. The whole touch panel has to be removed in order to clean it. Failing that, the panel would have to be replaced which may not be economically viable as it may cost more than to purchase a good working second hand or new oven.
Before removing the cover of a Microwave oven in attempt to carry out ANY maintenance such as replacing the Oven cavity lamp, make sure the oven is disconnected from the power point ! The voltages in a microwave oven ARE LETHAL !

Sharp Carousel II (R-9H83) loses clock, digital display dims

I think there are some electrolytic capacitors in the power supply to be replaced.Because there are relatively few, it would be good to change them all for more safety

Looking at other answers below your question on the page that i am viewing anyways. It appears that Sharp convection microwaves or Sharp microwaves in general seem to have an ongoing problem of that sort. The solution is to replace the main circuit board.

Our 2006 Samsung Microwave has suddenly ceased to heat anything. The clock works and the turn table goes around, but that's it. We had a couple of power outages just before this happened. Could it be...

Hi,

Press the "Off/Clear' button to cancel anything on the display, and reset the microwave. This is a soft reset and will simply get you out of any program you have started. Press it when the cooking complete reminder appears on the display.
Perform a hard reset. Pull the plug out of the wall power supply, and wait a moment. Plug the GE microwave back into the wall power supply to reset any anomalies with the microwave's memory. You will need to reset the time of day if you perform a hard reset.
Reset the time of day. Press the "Clock" button, and turn the dial to set the hours. Press the dial to enter. Follow the same procedure for the minutes and a.m. or p.m. Press the "Start" button to start the clock.

The microwave does not work.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

Let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.
