Monitor comes up shows "acer" then says no signal and goes black

When the monitor is turned on it appears to work - the "acer" name comes up and then the words "no signal". As soon as no signal comes on the sceen it goes to black and the light turns orange. The pc has a new video card installed and tests okay on other monitors, a new cable between pc and monitor has been installed also - still no success

I have had similar problems with Acer AL2423W and Acer X241W monitors. The monitors are great when they work properly. Turning off the power for approximately 15-20 minutes seems to "fix" the problem, but does not seem to be permanent fix. Problem may reoccur after several days or weeks. I have not yet been able to establish a predictable pattern. Calls to Acer tech support have not been helpful so far. The Acer techies tell me that they are unaware of the numerous posted complaints about this.

same problem. when i turn on the monitor, it says no signal. what to do?

  • PhilthyM Feb 20, 2008

Mine keeps the image but the "no signal" box is overlaid. No menu buttons work while it's displayed. Turn the screen off and back on seems to clear it. Mine is the AL2423W connected to a Mac Mini.

  • Optech May 23, 2008

I have the same problem. I have a Dell CPU/tower, Keyboard and mouse with an Acer AL1916 Monitor. It is quite annoying. Some days this happens every hour and then goes 3-4 days. I tried 2 other monitors. A Dell and another Acer. Unfortunately it still happened. When I plugged my LCD Acer back in, it seemed to be working correctly. I had thought that by unplugging everything and replugging it, something "magic" happened and was fixed. 2 weeks later it started again. So, the monitor is not the problem. I just turn the thing off and on and keep on working. It must be some other problem than the monitor.

  • Anonymous May 30, 2008

Exactly the same. Put on the pc, ACER appears and then black screen.

  • david laplant Jun 15, 2008

This morning my one year old AL2216W acer lcd monitor was working fine. Tonight I turned it on and name flashed followed by no signal flash and then black.

Someone suggested disabling DDC/CI from the OSD controls. Can anyone tell me how to do this? None of the buttons on the front of the monitor seem to do anything other than the power button.

I got an Acer Aspire desktop w/c was just out of warranty 5 months ago. It can be switched on, the monitor displays acer then a "No Signal" appears and the monitor turns off. It's been recurring. I have it checked but no definite remedy so far. I'm thinking if it's a factory/production defect.

  • chrisclar937 Feb 14, 2009

I also have the same problem, my monitor works fine, but my PC displays a blank screen, hardrive on, fan spinning and lights on no sucess, new graphics card and still no sucess, it really annoying.

  • Anonymous Feb 23, 2009

I have the Acer AL1916W connected to my macbook pro. It works totally fine in OS X, spanning, mirroring, or with built in screen off. Booting into windows XP I see the boot screen on both screens, but then get "no signal" from the Acer. If I swap to generic VGA drivers I can get a picture on the Acer, but at native res (1440x900) the picture is compressed vertically and the Acer floats an "input not supported" over it. I've tried updating my ATI (x1600) drivers to the latest (using driverheaven's mobilitymod).

  • begbrg Mar 18, 2009

    Same problem

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2009

I have the same problem. Just bought an Acer Desktop 1 month ago. rebooting the system seems to bring it back, but I notice when it boots up that the system does something to reconfigure the display. Almost like it knows there is a problem and it fixes it.

It doesn't seem to lose the signal until it sits idle for a while. Almost like it powers itself down...but not successfully!

I'm thinking of returning it, and buying a Dell.

  • elixx Apr 27, 2009

I have a similar problem with the Acer X241W, a Best Buy only model. I really don't want to have to go through Geek Squad if I don't have to, but it looks like that is what Acer wants.
It looks like there might be a firmware upgrade out there... I think I need v1.03.
Does anyone out there know what the

"6K.ISPVE.001 Toolkit" is? Is it just a cable to apply the firmware update?? Please let me know mcmorey(a t)gmail.com

  • arsears777 May 23, 2009

i am using my computer, then i walk away for 15-30 minutes, i come back, the monitor light is orange, and i move the mouse, hit the keys, turn off and then on the monitor, and it says no signal. then black screen.

  • mkayw01 May 24, 2009

we replaced the video card and tried 3 different monitors, 2 Acer's and one Dell monitor. Now what? Could it be the Mother Board? It's not that old either.

  • kcmoejoe Feb 28, 2012

For the record, I am yet another unhappy consumer who bought a Acer 23" widescreen - model S231HL with the famed 'No Signal' problem. It should just work, shouldn't have to troubleshoot a video signal to brand new monitor. Took it back to Micro Center in Overland Park, KS to return (of course they have not heard of any Acer problems) I told them they should google it and read all the issues. Didn't bother with another Acer, got a AOC 23" widescreen went home plugged it in, worked perfectly. Seems this is just another poorly made item that is a gamble to purchase with 50/50 chance it will work brand new out of the box.

I've had this exact same problem with my new 22" monitor and after trying Acer a hundred times via email I finally received a solution that works!

While the monitor is on, unplug it. Then hold the power button down for 30 seconds. This initiates some kind of "cold" shut-down internally. Then plug the power back in. The problem will be solved-for a while. Weeks or months later it will start again, but now you know the fix!

OK SO I FOUND A FIX IN CASE THIS METHOD DIDN'T WORK FOR YOU EITHER!!!!!! I guess ALL 3 of my monitors had a "loose cable" issue (and I made sure they were all on tightly), anyways, wiggling the DVI monitor on the back of the monitor (actually making is looser) fixed my problem, but the DVI cable is barely hanging on. If this was the case on all 3 of my monitors & 3 different DVI cables, there's something wrong with the acer s231hl

  • KJ837 Sep 18, 2017

I tried this by just taking the power cable out of the back of the monitor then following the instructions. It worked perfectly first time. I've had this monitor since 2008 and this is the first issue I have had with it and it is now working perfectly again.

I have two AcerX241W, 24" monitors and both failed in less than a year of purchase. I sent them in to be fixed by the authorized Acer repair center (on my dime). They were returned and worked fine for 6 months. One has failed again. One is still working. I don't think there is anymore warranty. I will NEVER purchase another Acer product.......of any kind.

This solution is based on the fact that you can see the computer POST details.

I reinstall the video drivers, works everytime on a Acer 263wb. (8800GT)
-When booting up hold F8
-Enable VGA Mode
-Start-ControlPanel-Device manager-Display Adaptors
-Right click the display adaptor/video card.
-Click Update Driver
-Install from a list or specific location
-Dont search. I will choose the driver to install.
-At this window it usually shows the driver software and simply select the one that matches your display adaptor.
-Reset the computer.

I tried several monitor reboots and one PC reboot to no effect. THEN I turned off the monitor for about 1 minute, turned it on and it started without problems.

My machine is fairly new, in great shape and a custom built beast so I know there are no "bad PC" problems. What I can consider it that I just finished doing some recommended Microsoft upgrades which included an Nvid Graphics upgrade. I am almost positive it was this MS upload that caused the problem. I think this because on startup I get a "configuring updates" message.

Next solution is to convert 100% to Apple products.

I've had this problem and thought for sure that my monitor X241W is a piece of junk. Nope I was wrong as always. Try doing this: move your speakers away from your monitor. Yep! if your speakers aren't magneticly shielded then they will affect your monitor and or your TV for that matter. I was reading up on THX Speakers when I discovered this factiod. My speakers are well away from my monitor and all is well. Hope it's that simple for you.

This works for me seems to be the same all around answer, though the problem is still aggravating.

What I have done after all the other suggestions is try to work around this issue.

Right click desktop> Open properties> open Tab Screen Saver..
Change the wait to 9999 minutes Click apply.

Box below (Monitor power)
left click Power>
Power Management (always on)

Next is Settings for always on power scheme
Turn off Monitor: Never
System Standby: Never
Then click apply
After this I just turn off monitor Normally......Wait few seconds...... turn back on and wait about 15-20 second move mouse and Problem is gone for me.

This does not cure the overall problem it is just a "Band-Aid" as I see there is an ongoing issue with ACER over all.. As Many suggest By a "Dell"

Oh one other thing as of this reply Mine is only 19 Days out of the Box

Had the same problem but have now found a temporary fix,
Right click you desktop and click on "Graphics Options"
Click on the "Multiple Displays" Tab
Click on the scrolldown "Operating Mode" and set to extended desktop.
Only a temporary fix of course, the problem seems to come back after a few days or weeks. This was on Vista so not sure about 7.
Hope it helped.

Same random "no signal" problem with my Acer X222w. Needless to say, I will *NEVER* buy another Acer product. Why should I when so many other monitors can (at least) work during a sleep/shutdown mode.

Acer, was that *REALLY* that hard to make work?

  • kcmoejoe Feb 28, 2012

Just for the record...bought a brand new Acer 23" widescreen model S231HL, but apparently that doesn't even matter, I also got the No Signal...worked all day on it, only got it to work and stay on a couple times. Not worth all the trouble! took it back to Micro Center in Overland Park, KS (of course they no nothing of the problem) told them to google it...Returned for a AOC 23" that worked like a monitor should, no problems at all with a completely different brand, I wasn't gonna chance an exchange for another Acer!

Not really a solution -- it's a temporary Work-around:

disconnect the AC power cord (either at the back of the monitor, or at your AC power socket), and then plug back in. While not a permanent fix, it seems to make it go away for some time. No explanation yet as for why this works. (I don't think it's heat related... I tried it out desperation seeing this suggested some place, and only had the plug out for 10 seconds, and it seems to have stopped the behavior (with me, it was a cycle of 10 seconds of black-screen/120 seconds of display time.

Have you checked the monitor on another machine? Check to see that no pins have bent on the monitor cable. Since the videocard has been tested on another monitor and worked you need to test the monitor on another machine. If the monitor does work on another machine check the following: Does your motherboard have built in Video? You may need to disable the built in video card in the BIOS. Rehook to the the old video,as the monitor comes on get into the BIOS. "del" key, or "f1" or "f2" it depends on the machine. Check the video display settings and disable the onboard video and make sure the proper video slot (AGP or PCI) is selected. Good Luck, Tim

I have a solution that worked for me.It is possible that your video card is fried, if it is your computer won't turn on at all. To check if its fried just pop the case and take it out of your pc, try turning on the computer then, if it works than that is your problem. Luckily i was running sli and i had a 2nd one.Hope this works!

Acer Field Service Bulletin

DATE: 04/03/08 NUMBER: mn_029

SUBJECT:
REVISED - The message "No Signal" sporadically appears on the screen.

AFFECTS: X241 monitors ET.L990B.029

ISSUE:
This is an update to the document original published 9/19/07
While the X241W monitor is in use, it might show "No Signal" on screen abnormally.
Sometimes, the monitor may still continue to display video.
Other times the monitor may be go black. For some customers, the problem will correct itself in a minute. These problems often occur during the first 20 minutes the monitor is powered on.

SOLUTION:
Short term #1 – Unplug the monitor to reset the video controller.

Long term #1 - The main board firmware can be reflashed to a newer version of
firmware by an Acer authorized monitor repair depot. The latest firmwares are listed below.

for monitor with s/n version “00” and ”10” FW = WDTD-D1AP0 V1.03
for monitor with s/n version “12” FW = WDTD-D1SP0 V1.02
for monitor with s/n version “13” FW = WDTD-D2AP0 V1.03

ACTION REQUIRED:
Confirm the firmware has been updated prior to returning the monitor to the customer
or to stock.
When an Acer service repair technician updates the firmware, they should record that
the part IN-MONITOR was used.

SPECIAL TOOLS
6K.ISPVE.001 Tool Kit with a corresponding DB-15 and Serial data cable.
USB-A to USB-B cable for power.

PARTS REQUIRED
Replace main board if firmware update does not resolve the problem. See spares parts list for p/n.

Acer LCD monitors appear to be plagued with this problem.

On the internet, I've come across three solutions.  One of these may work for you.

1. unplug the LCD monitor from the wall power, doing a hard "power down".  Some people report that this kind of reset cures the 'no signal' problem.

2. disable DDC/CI from the on-screen display (OSD) controls.  Some people report that disabling DDC/CI solves the 'no signal' problem.  (This worked for me.)

3. return your Acer LCD, and buy a Dell 2407WFP, or Apple Cinema HD 23, or go for the big HP LP3065 which has multiple DVI inputs.  (This also worked for me.)

I had the exact same problem I installed Vista x64 updated there main drivers just for vista and windows...I then installed the new video card drivers form my video card manufacter(nvidia) they would install and then the famous you must restart. I would restart watch the famous microsoft bar then no signal and screen goes black btu vista continues ot load up as i can hear it so i did this

While the monitor is on, unplug it. Then hold the power button down for 30 seconds. This initiates some kind of "cold" shut-down internally. Then plug the power back in. The problem will be solved-for a while. Weeks or months later it will start again, but now you know the fix! ((WARNING do at your own risk ))

And it has worked so far after looking the web fo rabout 1 month and installing vista like 15 times trying every which way to get it to work that did it. and once the new video card driver was installed i installed everythign else and so far havent had one problem yet i even updated with the newest video card driver adn still no problems. So thank you .all i will nwo enjoy my directx 10 and games :)

I have a x241w acer monitor and ge the "no signal" on screen every 10-20 seconds. Like may others, the screen may go blank or the no signal may appear on top of my programs.

I spent a lot of money on this from Best Buy two years ago, and only recently had a chance to use it and have had trouble ever since.

I have the same problem, but I know the cause from the beginning, which is because I changed something in the bios, and it's hard to be reversed because the computer is not recognized by the monitor.

The solution is resetting the bios to default, which is done by opening your computer, then and take of the bios battery (simply using your finger), and put it back on. Walaaaa... the monitor is on again.
I hope I help somebody..

The problem is the monitors are junk and can't scan the entire screen without going off. the fix is to go to your graphics card setting ie catalyst control and set the adjustments to underscan for the monitor to occupy quite a bit less of the actual monitor space ie going from a 23 to a 21 inch monitor and this fixes the problem but you are stuck with a smaller monitor.

I have an ACER X213W model running with a HP/Compaq 6910p laptop and Windows 7 Ent OS. I had to manually update the VIDEO driver ON the Laptop (nothing to do with ACER monitor drivers!) via "Search the internet for an update". Once updated the driver has changed to Ati mobility radion x2300 video driver. As soon as I rebooted the laptop, the ACER came up in unison with the laptop all is working fine.

Please allow me to join others in the Acer "experience". I have an Acer S211HL which I purchased through the Overland Park, KS Micro Center on September, 2011. Same problem. Monitor comes on...Acer logo displayed...Energy Star logo then displayed in upper left hand corner and then....no signal. The odd thing is shortly afterward I hooked up the monitor to my laptop...and it worked fine. So, now I'll try with the desktop again. But, if this doesn't work, it looks like there are some potential solutions posted here. Has anyone contacted Acer for a refund or exchange? It seems with so many people having the same problem, there would be a recall...or the company would replace through their retail distribution outlets. But, given the times we're in...

I have had the same "no signal" for quite a while now. i just kept (annoyingly) turning my monitor off and back on, then reset it w/the "auto" button. just yesterday i brought my pc to a friends house and he wanted to see how his xbox 360 looked on it, so i let him hook his vga cord to it and try halo. when i hooked up to my monitor via dvi cord...the problem was gone. havent seen it again yet (fingers crossed).

SOURCE: acer al1922 monitor no signal:

If it does the same with other PC then you need to open it up and first thing to look for are bad caps in the power supply, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps, transistors, transformers, lamps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside, and always replace with good quality caps such as PANASONIC FM or FC series from DIGIKEY.

When turning on my monitor(AL1914) the Acer name appears then disappears and a box that reads "no signal" appears.

Not the monitor. check that both end of the cable are tight. The most likely problem is the video card in the computer it it works okay on the XP computer.
