The laptop is a compaq presario 2100. It did turn on once and then went into hybernation. Not it will not charge or turn on now. If it needs a new battery can you tell me how to remove it? Thanks
Probably needs a new battery, simple to remove, there should be a little slider on the bottom of the laptop that u flick accross and the batery will come straight out :D

right click on the desktop select properties select screen saver click the power button click the hibernate tab make sure the Enable Hibernation box is checked
sounds like battery is naff,normally to remove battery from any laptop their is a slide button underneath or on the side,or on older models a slide cover which you slide down a bit then use the cover to pull the battery out.youll find it.
something like this is a physical issue and would have to be looked at by a qualified tech. they would have to open the notebook and re attach the socket.
