Leveling old refrigerator

I am remodeling my kitchen and have moved the old GE side/by/side from the garage to my make shift kitchen. GE TFX22R. It sits unlevel but from reading on line..... maybe a refrigerator does not need to be level.?? There are no "little" feet as far as I can tell to adjust. The fresh food door doesn't always close all the way. Any advice on adjusting the level or the door. Thank you. But what if it's the back that's too low and the front levelers are as far down as they will go?

The refrig does not have to be level, as a matter of fact, they tend to work (doors on most refrig's) if the front is a bit higher than the back. If you pop off the lower grill, you will see that the front rollers have a bolt that runs up through the lower frame. Turning on the end of that bolt with a 3/8 inch wrench will allow adjustment of an inch or so, up or down, depending on where it is at now. Only the front rollers are adjustable this way. Back rollers would have to be shimmed to adjust. Check the door hinges to see if the hinge and corresponding hinge cam riser (WR2X4901) are worn. (these parts raise the door slightly as it is opened, and help close the door as the door drops back down when closing.)

Refrigerator side not cooling. The freezer works fine. Its age is over ten years old. Model GE TFX22R.

Is there any frost build up on the freezer panel? If not, this could be a damper door issue. Check to see if air is coming from the damper, this is the vent inside the back left-corner of the fresh food side, assuming the evap fan is running. If you feel nothing, it more than likely is your damper door.

If you have frost build up, we're talking about a defrost issue then. Let me know!

Doors don't swing shut automatically

The GE side by side refrigerator has 2 cams on the bottom hinge that helps shut the door. If the cam wears out then the door will not close properly. One of the cams is riveted to the hinge assembly and an extra cam is shipped with it. The cam assemblies can easily be replaced by using the information on the Partselect.com website that refers to the GE TFX22R refrigerator.

Moved refrigerator. Won't get cold now unless at 9.

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

GE TFX22R side by side door problem

Undo the bolt at the bottom of the fridge side and have someone hold the door level, this happened to mine over time and the doors had just became uneven. Level up both doors by refixing the bolts and see if that helps. It did for me.
