My new DR-7580 worked for a few days. Now when I try to scan, the tray raises, it sounds like the pick up rollers are spinning (but they are not), the tray lowers, and I get a message that no paper was detected in the feeder. Is this an easy fix?
Try cleaning the rollers if that doesn't work, remove all of the rollers (feed seperator and retard) then simply reinstall them. This fixed the errors we had.

You cannot swap upper and lower images. You can scan the page twice (in duplex mode) by reversing the same. Ensure which side is giving perfect output.
DR 7580 is a CONTACT scanner and hence the paper has to touch the glass surface properly. There are two full sized rollers, just above/below the scanning module, which does this job. Ensure that they are proper and there is enough pressure, press and release 3-4 times to check it is stuck.

Clean the sensor area in the centre of the Paper tray thoroughly, use Isopropyl alcohol if required, but dont use any solvent. If the problem persists even after this you need to check the sensor.

If the Black lines are jaggered and are vary in size with different levels of brightness, then most likely it is scratch on the glass. If the lines are sharp and perfect and does not change when different brightness is chosen, then it could be failure of CIS module (Try this under B&W mode). To the best of my knowledge there is no concept of initialising the CIS, you may need to clean the Shading sheet.

Check if you have selected proper brightness or contrast, it is better to select auto mode. If you peep into the scanning module along the paper direction you can notice a streak of light of the top module. This is to just ensure there is no hardware problem.

Assuming the document going through the scanner looks normal, there are a few things to check. If you open Capture Perfect, you can adjust the contrast and brightness as well as the thresholds. Sometimes different toners react differently to the scanner...paper is a big thing too. Multi-part forms can be tricky to get the settings adjusted so you pick up enough of the text but not that on the other side. If it's still messing up, you can try and get it serviced. It's not really an issue with the scanner. The scanner will pick up the image and convert it to whatever you want, but your backend software is what you'll need to mess with for this. Any form recognition software will work (Form Storm, ABBYY FormReader, etc.)
