I too have the seven flashing amber lights . and have cleaned the print head .. and have gone thru holding the resume button and the power button and still cannot get the amber light to stop flashing

Probably your waste ink counter. Should be cleaned or replaced before resetting
but usually you can get away with resetting once. 1. Start with printer
OFF 2. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER 3. Release RESUME 4.
press RESUME twice, then release POWER 5. let green light blink until
printhead has finished moving. 6. Select functions below with RESUME, execute
with POWER
0 presses - green light - Test Print 1 press - orange light - EEPROM info print 2 presses - green light -
EEPROM initialise 3 presses - orange light - reset waste ink counter.

You may RESET the printer code first if you like or do it after you clean the pad In some cases you may need to REMOVE THE PRINT HEAD FIRST or the reset code will not work. This was true of the S900 and i960 so, remove the print head first before doing this reset. This is the correct code for the S and I (like i960) series of printers. (M series below this) 1) Power off printer 2) Hold RESUME button then press and hold POWER. (The beeper MAY sound once, or may not depending on your model.) 3) Hold POWER and Release RESUME. 4) Press RESUME twice then release both POWER and RESUME buttons. 5) When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME 4 times (for the S900, 3 times for the 8200 apparently). 6) Press power to set data. 7) Print away! 5 flashes indicates a faulty printhead or possibly a problem with the p/head contacts. Try removing the head which is easier if you take the cartridges out first(no tools required) and re-seat it having checked the contacts for dirt.
If that doesn't work it may be that the waste ink tank is full. Try this ...
Canon S9000, S300, S400, i550, i560, i850, i860, i865, i9100, i9950, PIXMA iP3000 above, 1. Turn off printer 2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button. 3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go. 4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go. 5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking. 6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times. 7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more. 8. Your printer should respond as normal.
try the following

Now you have put the printer in Service Mode so it will accept Service commands. Here is the list of Service commands;

With the printer plugged in and powered off, press and hold the Resume/Cancel button, then press and hold the Power button. Do not release the buttons. The LED light should be green to indicate that a function is selectable
While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button, do not release the Power button

The Power Light Flashes Orange - Error Codes
When
an error occurs, the power light flashes orange. The number of orange
flashes followed by a long green flash indicates the cause of the
problem. Two orange flashes:Out of paper, paper jam, or paper feed error

no paper is loaded in the auto sheet feeder, or if the paper is not
loaded correctly, set the paper correctly and press the Resume button
on the printer to continue printing. Three orange flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, carefully remove the jam and press the Resume button to continue printing. Four orange flashes: A tank inside the BJ cartridge (print head) is out of ink

error so you can continue printing. The POWER light flashes orange and green alternately: Service error
A
service error means the printer requires the attention of a qualified
technician. Count the number of flashes. (You may be asked this
information.)
Operator error. Press printer's RESUME button. If this doesn't clear the error, cancel printing and turn the printer off and then back on.
