SOURCE: try to start mower and turns over but wont start

Does it continue to run after you start it by pouring gas into the carburetor or does it die again?

If it continues to run, it sounds like your choke is not working. Probably disconnected -- check linkage.

SOURCE: Why does my mower shut off after I turn the choke off?

It sounds like you took the carb off the engine and did not replace the gasket or tore the gasket and it is sucking too much air. Also check to see if the carb and bracket ( if it has one ) are on straight.

SOURCE: Walbro Carburetor on Briggs & Stratton Model 28R707

If the float don't float, the needle valve stays open and gas runs into crankcase.

If float floats (has no gas inside) then the needlel is probably worn and needs replacement.

John Deere GS30 Walk behind mower with 13 hp Kohler engine. It will only run when pouring gas in carburetor then dies when I stop.

Question edited for clarity.

Are you using Ethanol Fuel in it. That fuel rots the inner lining of the fuel pipe and blocks the flow. Replace the line. also remove the carb and blow out all the jets. If you remove mixture screws, screw them gently in first and count the turns, and write it down. Then remove and clean. If it has a primer bulb, replace it.

Hard to start n cold wheather put new battery in it still having trouble

I suspect the choke isn't closing fully. Remove air cleaner down to where you can see the choke butterfly. With the controls in choke position that butterfly should be completely closed. If not you can adjust it. If this is cable operated, adjust it by loosening the screw that holds it on the bracket and slide it until choke closes. This is done usually on carb end. I am also assuming it runs fine after start. Hope this helps.

Briggs & Stratton Van Guard 16 hp D.C. Chipper with Gravity Flow. With fuel switch on and starting engine four minutes, white smoke apprears and increases gradually, then heavier and chokes itself...

Sounds like your carb is flooding. Inside the carb, there is a simple valve that shuts off the fuel flow when the fuel bowl is full. If this valve fails, or if the float sinks, then too much fuel is forced into the cylinder and will wash past the rings and into the crankcase. This causes the engine to run very rich. You need to remove, clean and overhaul the carb, and change the oil and sparkplug and probably the air filter too. Find the model, type, and code numbers on the engine and go to www.partstree.com , www.ordertree.com , or your local repair shop to get the needed carb overhaul kit. Some B&S engines have an option of carbs, so look for a name on the carb itself...probably Nikki or Walbro. The carb kit is not very difficult to install, but make sure to get everything very clean before reassembly.
Good luck.

How do i repair a choke lever in a weedeater te475y gas trimmer? Does the lever pull straight out of the carburetor.

Upon inspection of this model machine, it appears that the choke lever shaft is pressed into place when the carb is manufactured. Removal may be possible, but probably more damage will occur. I have this same model machine with a Zama carb having flooding issues after soaking in a bath-type solvent overnight. This is NOT recommmended.
Here is a parts breakdown for your machine:
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/weed-eater-te475y-gas-trimmer-parts-c-17589_17626_18141.html
Unfortunately, there is no avaiilable release date for the part you need in question....On the page I made available it is part # A800 or A801...depending whether you have the Walbro or Zama carb. Mine has the Zama.

The carb is not closing down properly. You will need to either rebuild the carb or just replace it. Basically the float is staying open after you shut the machine down. Please rate

No floats in chainsaw carbs. Severly flooded most common start problem with chainsaws. Read and follow the start procedure in your manual. Don't use choke on flooded engine (may set fast idle, set then turn off)!
