I just installed he120 by pass humidifier upon start up motor turns real slow humistat is turned on to high and still same problem . this is first humidifier that i have installed and used so i do have some questions how fast should motor spin ? should motor spin when heating system is off ? how much water is sprayed into the heating duct ? will any parts or duct work rust from water ? thank you for your help pete @acelocksmith.com
THE MOTOR ONLY TURNS THE SPONGE DRUM AT MAYBE 10X'S PER MINUTE. THIS IS A BY-PASS TYPE HUMIDIFIER THAT RELIES ON YOU FURNACE BLOWER MOTOR TO SUPPLY AIR ACCROSS THE SPONGE MEDIA. NOTICE THE 5"-7" ROUND HOLE MUST BE DUCTED TO THE PLENUM OR RETURN AIR. (IF MOUNTED ON THE PLENUM, THE HOLE HAS TO BE DUCTED TO THE RETURN AIR, AND VISA-VERSA.) CAUTION!!!IF YOU HAVE CENTRAL AIR? A "DAMPER" MUST BE INSTALLED AND KEPT CLOSED THROUGH-OUT THE "COOLING SEASON". SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPRESSOR CAN RESULT FROM TOO COLD OF AIR ... CIRCULATING AND "BY-PASSING YOUR EVAPORATOR COIL".

My drum stopped turning as well. My humidifier is about three years old. I can't find a replacement motor or get any help from Honeywell at all. I do not know what a damper is--I'm pretty sure I don't have one and the owner's manual doesn't mention it. I am ready to disconnect the thing and forget about it.
Just spent 20 minutes discussing HE120 with Home Depot employee, including the question presented. The 24v power supply provided is always feeding juice to the unit regardless if blower is on. Consequently the wheel WILL be turning whenever the humidistat control is "calling", even if the furnace blower is off.
I thought the main unit has to be mounted on the HEATED (supply) side while the duct hole is created on the (cold air) return duct. As shown in the following installation guide......

Otherwise you will be forcing heated air into the humidifer (mounted on cold air return) if the round duct is installed on the furnace output duct, to be moistened and returned through the furnace, which the Home Depot employee said can create BIG headaches.
