Maytag gas oven takes long time to heat, sometimes not at all

Maytag AGR4410ACH

I have an Older Maytag gas stove, that takes a loooooooong time to heat up. I went to make pizza the other nite, and it took quite a while to heat up to 400 degrees!!! I had the igniter replaced last year and all was well, 'till now. Is it the thermostat? Is it hard to install myself? I do know how to install a igniter, saw the appliance repair man do it, no big deal. Is the thermostat easy to replace? Please let me know and thank you!!!

Maytag gas oven takes a long time heat and smells of gas.

Important---if you smell gas--I'd be very very careful---could be your control valve or lines to it are malfunctioning or leaking. You might have to call in an expert repair person. How old is the oven? Some preliminary checks you might make are: Do you have a pilot lite or preheaters on the unit? If a pilot lite, make sure it is lit. An unlit pilot lite could sometimes give the smell of gas if malfunctioning. If so, there is is a procedure for lighting the pilot lite--check your user or installation manual. If you have pre-heaters make sure they are lighting up. Normally you have one for the top broiler burner, and one for the bottom oven burner. Check your preheater(s) by selecting either broiler or oven and visually checking to see if they are warming up. After 15 seconds or so, they should be turning bright red. You will see some light coming from them. Check one pre-burner at a time. If they do not come on quickly, shut off the associated valve. Again, be very, very careful with any buildup of gas. It could cause an explosion. At the least it could make you sick.

I have a Maytag (Magic Chef) gas oven model CGR3730ADH. The oven will not heat up. The ignitor will glow/heat up but there does not appear to be any gas flow. The top burners work normally. After...

HI,
First of all, thank you for all your information. A rule I live by, even if an ignitor glows does not mean it works. The ignitor works on the flow of electricity through it not how bright it glows. If you can use a amperage meter, hook on one of the two wire to the ignitor directly. You need 3.2 to 3.6 amps to open the safety valve. If lower than 2.6 amps, it will not allow gas to enter the burner. If you have no clue what I am asking you to do, you can purchase and replace the ignitor and life will be better. P# 12400035. Its not difficult to change, the screws holding the ignitor in place sometimes strip out, when you get them off, you can replace them if needed.
Good Luck

ello & Welcome to FixYa

This indicates an open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the sensor needs replacement. If you wan to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter for around 1100ohms....if it reads more then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around or less then 1100ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.
