I am trying to install Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64-bit on this system but cannot complete the installation because of computer coming up with bluescreen!
I also have a GM5478, with the 500GB Sata drive, 4GB memory, 8800GTS, Q6600. It bluescreens with XP 32 and 64 bit (both legit). I have installed vista 32/64 bit fine, along with windows 7 32/64 bit. Xp does not work with my machine.
Make sure you have enough hard drive space. Also make sure you have enough RAM to support the Operating System
Be sure you have a 64-bit system before installing this will not work on a 32-bit system.

Look up specifications on Gateway Support website for Serial Number:CSX7711000611/GM5478 Computer, this will verify machine specifications for you. The copy of Microsoft Windows Professional 64-bit I am trying to use is original/legitimate w/COA.
During Installation at pont after it loads DOS portion and says Starting Windows. It says that it has stopped the machine to prevent damage to it and try removing any new hardware that has recently been installed and check hard drives for errors or viruses, also to make sure that all drives are properly connected and configured .
I have been reading in some forums about a condition called BIOS Locking that is done either by Motherboard Manufacturer or Computer Manufacturer! I am wondering if this could be the cause of my not being able to downgrade from Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64-bit, could the BIOS be locked to prevent the machine from accepting any other OS? I believe that my machine is quite capable of supporting the new 64-bit OS looking at the specifications posted at Gateway Support website for my machine.
Installed System RAM: 4 GB although Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit version only lets machine see around 3.5 GB of it, machine does boot without any difficulties!
Installed Hard Drive is 500 GB SATA 2 Western Digital, no problem here either! Think I have the bases covered?

Ok, after a considerable amount of research online I have deduced that what my problem has been all along is that Windows XP does not have native drivers for onboard SATA controller, I found numerous explanations of something called slipstreaming drivers into a rewritten XP installation disk but so far I have not had any success at doing so, not exactly sure what I am doing wrong?
Are the$e legal copie$ of Window$? In other word$ did you $end money to Bill Gate$. If you $ent money to Micro$oft they might let you u$e their O$. They $eem to be very concerned about thi$.
also how much ram, hard drive size, and what processor?
First off we need to figur out a couple things. ythis could be multiple different things. First off, is this a bootleg copy or a oficial copy? Not thatim judging but i need to know for diagnostiscs reasons. Secondly are you doing a full install or just an upgrade? And last, at what point does it give you the Blue screen of death?
