Just got a brand new camera. Played around with it a few nights to learn all the parts and buttons. Went to a concert tonite. While waiting for the show I took many test shots to see how the camera would work under these contiditions. Used a 75 to 300 Cannon lens. I had just got the settings about right when the show started. All of a sudden the display went dark and "busy" flashed in the view finder. But it would not take any more pictures. Taking the battery out and removing the sd card did not help. The auto focus and flash still worked but nothing else.
This camera is going back to the store if I can't get some help. PLEASE............. Danny

Same thing happened to me and I'm trying to figure it out too
Well Circuit City was no help. I had the camera just over a week and they had none in stock. So now I have to wait 3 to 9 business days for them to special order another one. If this is a common problem maybe I need to lool into something differant. Citcuit City's add on warrenty is not what I thought either. I paid $140.00 for a 2 year accident plan that works only once. If the camera breaks outside of the Cannon warrenty "of I guess 90 days" they will replace it one time even if I have a year and a half left. But I have the chance to pay another $140 to add it to the replacement.
This is something new they just started. I have been buying electronics with warrentys from them for years. I will have to rethink that on my next purchace.
Same problem with my rebel xs......would focus on things close up but not far away (busy).......HH Gregg was wonderful and replaced with a brand new camera with no questions asked....Tonight however just when i wanted the perfect shot of my 2 yr old making cookies suddenly the new camera wont focus on anything! UGGGhhh! I'm charging the battery now hoping that is the issue.....
same issue, new canon XS, just placed the 70-300 mm lens, then the AF did not work. I charged the battery, then it did not help. after two my tries the display went blank, the viewfinder shows busy and the thing does not work anymore. I hope someone has a solution.
I have an EOS 1000D - less than 1 month old and I have the same issue. LCD monitor blank, viewfinder 'BUSY'. It seems to autofocus and take an exposure reading but that's it. Can't release the shutter.

The Cam worked for about a week, but now i cant even turn on the display. It always shows "busy" in the viewfinder.
My camera just stopped working and I can't figure out how to fix it. I've tried everything listed here, so I'll probably just have to take it back.
I've had an EOS 1000D for about 6 wks now with no problems until yesterday after taking several shots the LCD panel blanked out and I'm seeing the buSY error. I've recharded the battery and removed the card and tried another card but still no luck. I can't make any changes to the settings as I can't see the display. There are also no problems with the battery as I have tried two and the camera still activates and flash works but I just can't take any shots. Hopefully someone has an answer...

A few days before, it kept giving me an "Error 99", telling me to take the battery out and turn the camera off and then on.
(It didn't work)

canon rebel xs 1000D same problem. busy disply and no screen. I think this is a common problem with this camera. a friend had hers do this within one week. think about looking at another camera........JV
I've had mine for 2 weeks. It died after attatching the EF 55-250 mm lens. Will be making a trip back to the shops tomorrow to get it sorted.

Just bought mine three days ago and have the same problem; I get the message 'busy' in the viewfinder and the screen is black. Also it doesn't connect with my computer.
Does anyone has a solution?
