I can't get my display monitor to show an image from my computer. I had an error "not optimum mode. recommended mode: 1280 x 1024 60 Hz". Any ideas?

Hey!
Follow the instruction below to solve your problem:
Restart your computer and enter Safe Mode (press F8 right as the computer starts booting up. Choose Safe Mode in the menu, press Enter twice).
While in Safe Mode, open Control Panel and go to Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features on Vista/7) and uninstall the display driver software/drivers.
Restart your computer and boot normally. Now you should be able to see everything. Things might look bigger and uglier, that because there's no display driver installed. All you have to do now is reinstall the display driver. Use it's original disc or go to the manufacturer website and download the latest driver.
Good luck!
Pelu.

I have tried swapping cables, unplugging the AC cable and restarting the laptop. Nothing seems to work. I can see error messages and when I press the menu button on the display I see a "test good" message on the screen but no menu pops up. I hadn't used the display for a couple of months and had it turned off. When I tried to use it again it started displaying the error message about the not optimum resolution.
By looking at some of the comments on the web it seems this is a common problem for this display.
