What you are experiencing are symptoms of a failing CCD (imaging sensor). Most often, the sensor needs to be replaced. If you need to have it serviced, a great place for these G12 models is: www.camerasandparts.com They just service the Canon Powershots exclusively and the work through them is superb. They are not expensive at all, it runs $89 through them to fix this problem. That looks after parts, labor, servicing for the camera, and the return shipping included. This is where a lot of people go for help with the Canons. Hope that helps you with it, best of luck.

I agree. Camerasandparts.com would be your best bet for this. They do an internal correction to the G12 too to prevent this from keep happening in the G12's.

How can I replace the LCD connecting flip on my Canon G12 camera?

Here's a video on YouTube but it's in German. You should still be able to get an idea of what's involved by watching it. You can find replacement screens on Ebay for fairly cheap.

Why won't the screen on my Canon G12 display an image so I can take a photo??

The Display button toggles the information shown on the LCD (or turns it off entirely). Make sure you haven't inadvertently pressed it and turned off the display. It works as follows:

  • Press once for Normal view in LCD viewfinder
  • Press twice to turn on Rule of Thirds grid lines
  • Press three times to turn off LCD display
  • Press and hold 1 sec. to decrease/increase LCD brightness

Why my canon G12 present black display or horizontal lines overexposed?

It's common on the G12. This is the place fixing these: www.CamerasAndParts.com They have a specific service package for this $89, parts and labor come included, plus they do the internal fix so it doesn't keep occurring on the camera. They are the best place for help with the Canon Powershots. Best of luck with it.

"I have a Canon Powershot G12 Camera. The LCD screen works but its image is very washed out with weird colors. I can see the image and the shooting information and sometimes the image is OK for a few...

This is a common problem on the Canon G12. It has something to do with the CCD Sensor yet Canon doesn't acknowledge it to be a problem. To get this fixed, I would suggest: www.camerasandparts.com All they specialize in is the Canons. It's $89 through them to fix that common problem, plus they service the camera and do the internal correction to prevent this from reoccurring again on the camera. They tend to be the best bet for the Canon's, definitely for this issue, they'd be the place. Good luck

Canon g12 purple

If you have a purple image or an image problem, this is most often caused by a faulty imaging sensor. If you need to have that replaced or even have the camera serviced for that issue, we do not recommend taking it apart. When dealing with the optics, it should be done by a service professional. If you need to have that one serviced, you can have it done here: www.camerasandparts.com These guys just specialize in the Canon Powershots and nothing else, the work through them is superb. For that problem, it runs $89 through them for parts / labor and the servicing for the camera, plus they cover the return shipping which we like. The best part, they do outstanding work on the Powershots and they are actually reasonable price wise. They'd be the place for help with that one, best of luck with it.
