Make sure you have the latest BootROM and SIP config files for this polycom(sip.ld, sip.cfg, etc...) on your TFTP server. If you do not have this - download from here - http://www.polycom.com/support/voice/soundpoint_ip/soundpoint_ip501.html

If you do not have a TFTP server, you can download one for free.

Had the same problem with with a Polycom 330.
downloaded the upgrade from this page:
http://downloads.polycom.com/voice/voip/sip_sw_releases_matrix.html

then used FileZilla, configured the client and password as PlcmSplp and set the shared folder where i had the phone software.
then i configured the phone. disabled the DHCP, set an static IP, static subnet mask, and static default gateway. and set the server user and password. rebooted the phone and it pulled the files from the FTP server.

What is the ID Message on the polycom soundstation 2w
If you have Polycom Sound Station 2 and you are getting NO ID Message on screen. Please do the following:

1. Press Speaker
2. 773

This should clear up the error.

I have a problem regarding my Polycom Soundpoint IP331. It doesn't boot anymore. It shows only an error which is error.cfg.
You need to reinstall all the files back onto the phone. You can get the files from the Polycom Website. You can also follow the instruction from my Polycom 501 Fixya blog to see how its done.

Vortex giving error code of 291
Error Code 291 is an internal hardware failure. There is no service fix for the field technician; the unit must be removed and sent back to Polycom for repair.

Error loading 0004f220429c.cfg
This means the phone cannot find its <mac>.cfg file on the boot server, and does not have one loaded in its own flash memory.
You will need to configure a boot server to host the SIP software, BootROM, and all the config files (these are included in with the SIP software).
You can download these from Polycom's product support page:
