Cartridges replaced- top closed- no way out of manual

After replacing a cartridge and closing the top, the manual does not disappear and message keeps coming up the (scanner) top is still open, which is not. when i closed it i had to use a bit of force as it seemed the handle was a bit stuck.
on my island is no Dell technician available and i have been told this type of printer is similar to a Lexmark???
Any advice, solution or direction is most welcome. Thank you in advance.

Completely disconnect this unit. Power, usb etc. hold the power button for 30 seconds. (it obviously won't turn on, but humor me) Then open all the doors on the unit, paper jam, ink cartridge access, and ink cartridges also/ etc. Close all doors again, then connect to the computer, then the power, then power on. If the problem persists, you broke the sensor or it's little plastic tab, which might not be worth replacing.

SOURCE: printer error message

To eliminate a software problem, disconnect printer from pc and completely uninstall the printer driver and restart pc. Insert our printer driver cd and install the drivers, but do not connect printer until advised. When advised connect printer and ensure windows recognises it in the little pop up window in tool bar and says 'Your hardware is installed and ready to use' If the same message appears then the printer is faulty.

SOURCE: Dell 922 "cover open" problem / error message

I had that problem too.

Unplug the printer.
Hold the printer cover open while you plug in the printer.
Then close the printer after it powers on.

It worked for me.

SOURCE: Dell 810 All-In-One InkJet Incompatible Ink Cartridge error message

Well, first off ,it's dell's fault, not yours. Even Official Dell cartridges are temperamental at best. The cartridge error you are explaining is common with Dells. They even have what's called a marriage issue, meaning the cartridge will work in only one single printer. However, I'm not sure how to fix it. Sometimes, you can install a new one and the other cartridge you never touched gives you fits, and goofs up. I'd say get a new printer. Dell is increasingly getting more stingy with their ink, and truth be told, I don't think their quality (*lexmark makes dell, so stay away from them too) matches HP or canon. If you want the best cost per page, get a canon that has individual ink cartridges. They are easy to refill, and print a great picture. You pay more $$ up front, but you'll save a ton in the long run

SOURCE: dell photo 924 ink cartridge problems

Hi ,
if you are getting the msg color cartridge missing , maku sure that it is compatible with your printer , on the cartridges you will get the part no M4646/J5566 , look for those part no's and if it is giving the error msg on the LCD display of the printer , try using the old cartridge ...try the following steps
1) put the old cartridge in and then unplug the power adapter (Black box ) from the printer.

2) wait for 30 seconds and put back the power adapter and turn on the printer, and look for the msg on the printer display. if it gives the same error msg with the old as well as the new color cartridge then its an issue with the printer , and if it does not gives the error msg with the older one then its an issue with the cartridge and if you have purchase the cartridge from dell online/phone then call them back give the order no of the cartridge that u have purchased and they will replace it.

good luck..

SOURCE: Refilled my Dell Ink Cartridge

It's never going to recognize a product that is not original even if it's refilled in the Dell cartridge. That's happened to me--you get used to it. Dell just wants you to get it from THEM and not from any where else. I have a 922 All-in-One....It's been good for the past 3 years.

Lexmark 6170 Cartridge Error 50C How to resolve?

"Error 50c". They do, however, mention a "Cartridge Error" on page 52 of the manual. They claim this means that the printer has detected a short circuit (fuse/resister) in the cartridge. As you may or may not have noticed in the manual, this is what they recommend doing about it:

1) Press Power to turn the printer off.

2) Lift the printer cover/lid (scanner unit) until the scanner support holds it open.

3) Turn the printer on.
The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

4) Remove the color ink cartridge.

5) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.
If the error message displays again, replace the black cartridge with a new black cartridge.

If the error message does not display, repeat steps 1–3 and then go to step 6.

6) Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black ink cartridge.

7) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.

If the error message displays again, replace the color cartridge with a new
color cartridge.
If there is no error message (indicated by flashing lights), repeat steps 1–3 and then reinstall both ink cartridges.
8) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.

If you get the error message again, while both cartridges are installed, replace both of the cartridges.

Basically, what they want you to determine is,....if the short circuit is with the "black ink" cartridge or the "color ink" cartridge and then replace the cartridge that has the problem.

You may have to buy a new cartrige.

Error code 1203

To determine whether this error is due to a cartridge failure or a hardware problem with the printer, do the following: Make sure the printer is powered on. Open the printer's top cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position. Press down on the cartridge lever to raise the cartridge lid. Remove the cartridges. With the cartridges out of the printer, close the top cover. Power the printer OFF and then back ON. Check the operator panel to see if the 1203 error has returned or if a new message is displayed. If the message displayed is 1203, there is something wrong with the printer hardware. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support. If the message is Cartridge Missing, reinstall the cartridges into the printer. Insert the black cartridge in the left carrier. Insert the color cartridge in the right carrier. Snap the lids closed. Close the top cover. Check the operator panel. If the 1203 message is still present, you need to insert one cartridge at a time to determine which cartridge is producing the failure. With one cartridge in the carrier, close the top cover and check the operator panel. If the 1203 message is displayed, that cartridge is producing the error. If Cartridge Missing is displayed, the second cartridge is the defective item. Please replace the defective cartridge.
