I have just been given a Elna 2002 and have downloaded the manual which mostly refers to the 2004 and 2006. I do not understand how the pattern selection works. The dial shows for example 4 and 9 (two different patterns) but I do not know how to get each one to work and the dial is just set on 4 and 9. Would appreciate your help.
Turn the stitch pattern selector to the stitch pattern that you want to use, lets say number 4, the elastic zig-zag. Set the stitch length on the rotary control to the length you need and also set the width on the slider. Sew. All basic stitches where the fabric only moves forwards (1 to 5) are selected and controlled in this way.
If you want the criss-cross stitch 9, select number 9 - the same dial setting as stitch 4 but now turn the stitch length selector to the "S" position. The basic stitch length is preset but you can still set the stitch width as usual.
For all stitches that use the "S" position (6 to 10), the feed dogs have to move the fabric both forwards and backwards to create the desired pattern. The precise balance of forwards to backwards movement can be adjusted a little buy turning the control knob a little in the "+" or "-" directions on either side of the "S". This is to balance the stitches so that when creating these patterns with the thread, the needle can be correctly placed to give the correctly shaped stitch (or for decorative effect too, I suppose).
The question was regarding the Elna 2002 not 2007 and it wasn't a problem. I just do not understand how the pattern selection works. Thank you.
