No sound was watching TV, then there was no sound, and it's not the cable box

  • Frank Natale Jun 23, 2012

Thanks for the info. I guess there was no "easy" way of tellign if it was or wasn't the cable box. I tried the Sony Playstatin, that was fine. I took the HDMI calbe that was plugged into the Sony PS from the TV and plugged that inot th eCable Box, No Sound. So I called Cablevision. Wna tto know what th efix was, ready for it? as the first thing they alwasy tell you in the Computer Diagnostic Business, REBOOT! All is fine. I'll be a monkey's uncle.

Try putting in a DVD or VCR tape..if they don't make any sound either...than you have probably blown an audio board fuse... But I bet that they will have sound which in that case the problem is more than likely the cable ITSELF not the box... the cable that carries the signal your tv has video on one wire and audio on another.. then sheilding etc.. it's probably got a short in audio ( I have seen brand new cables to do this so even if it looks ok try different one.) if that don't work... hook a different tv up at that location and see what happens... and then it's to call cable company to come fix the box which probably blew up scrambler... which would show that the output is working fine but unfortunately your tv is not able to dis cipher the audio because it's a tv not a cable decoding device...I hope that helps you.

Precision TV - PTV2548 no sound when your watching cable but there is sound forvideo input

may be the source itself(i.e. cable box) also check cables between cable box & TV. If you are connecting the DVD to the same input the cable box is installed, You know that input on the TV is OK. If you get no audio when the DVD is connected to the same input as cable box, then issue is the MAIN PCB.

Can't switch back to cable after using dvd

Disconnect the DVD---if using a box disconnect it also---run cable to the tv directly to see if box is causing the issue.

If works with cable direct to set unplug the box and after a short wait plug it back to let it try to reboot.

If reboot does not work consider having the box swapped out.

The problem isn't with your TV, its with the cable company.
Call the cable company, problem is most likely with your digital box or a signal problem.

How do i get my TV to play through my surround sound system

I don't know which receiver you have but, I can give you a basic idea.
You need RCA cables Yellow for Video, Red and White for Audio.
You may not need to connect the Yellow cable for the Video again, it depends on the receiver you're using. Basically, to get the TV sound from your Surround system, you only need the white and Red RCA cables.
Connect one side of the RCA cable white & Red to the receiver (IN) and the other side of the RCA Cable to the TV or cable box (out) You need to select the source on the receiver, AUX or Video.

I could help better if I knew which receiver, if you're using a cable box and how are you getting TV signal? do you select CH 3 or AV to watch TV?

Best of luck to you.

I have my television, cable box, and apple tv running into the tuner with HDMI cables with the tuner hooked up to surround speakers for the sound. I'm having trouble separating the audio and video. I would...

The only way you can do this is by connecting the Cable Set Top box HDMI directly to the TV HDMI input and switching the TXSR508 to Apple TV. And if you want to hear the Cable sound through the TXSR, connect analogue audio out of the TV to one of the analogue inputs of the TXSR ( Aux or Video In ). You may not get the Cable TV's Dolby 5.1 sound but you will get stereo sound which on using the TXSR's dsp setting ( ProLogic II ) can be made into 5.1.

Hi my name is Eric,
I hope I can help you with your issue ,
Do you have a cable box?
First thing i think of is you need to reboot the cable box by unplugging it from AC power, then reconnect it. (then reboot the Tv same way if haven't done that yet either) then its time to try it with AV cables
to make sure the cable box is not bad. using the red/white and yellow cables
then testing with another source like a DVD player, common sense will tell you if its the cable box or the TV.
If you've already done this or don't have a cable box (sorry),

The only thing in the TV that can cause you to lose audio only on TV is the SAP mode.

Hope this helps, if it has solved your issue please click accept
But if you have more questions please respond and I will reply asap
Thanks
Eric
