Coupling between motor and drive assy broken. take motor loose and you can get it out. Visual check first to see if motor is running when in agitate cycle.

Either the belt broke or the hood switch is not working. Sometimes it could be the contacts in the main control knob but if everything else is working correctly, then check the belt, and the hood switch first.
sounds like you have a broken lid switch on the washer, maybe someone slammed the door or placed or stood on top of the washer, a broken lid switch won't allow washer to go into spin mode is a safety device so if is on spin cycle an someone sticks their hand it the machine stops an not breaks your hand.
Pull the agitator out and check the drive collar splines. If you have the model I think you have just pull straight up on the agitator. Once removed you will see the drive collar with a 7/16 head bolt, remove it and pull off the collar.First before pulling it off spin it if splines are stripped it will spin freely.
I would suggest washing the clothes without soap until they rinse clear. If you have hard water, the soap will not easily rinse out of clothes, or off of you when you use soap to wash or shower.
Reduce the amount of soap you use in each wash if this is the case. It sounds like your washing machine is working right.
The ge wcxr1070t uses a coupling under the agitator . There is a cap on the top pop it off and remove the screw if you see one , otherwise just pull up , the coupling is under the agitator check to see if it is stripped . dr fixit in the repair service directory will have it if bad
