The connection order can be a key issue as to whether or not the HDMI
signals will pass through the system. For best results the receiver
should be turned on first, then the source device(s) and then the
display. The reason for this has to do with getting the equipment to
handshake properly for the HDCP protocol.
If HDMI video will not pass through your receiver, you may with to just connect the xbox using the component cables. Since component will pass through 720p and your TV is 1080i you should expect the same qualtiy and a more crisp picture.

Hello,
Denon has for some reason removed this function from their user manuals. However The manual does show how to do a manual reset of the unit. This may correct the issue.
With the Amp OFF but plugged in, press and hold the speaker A and B buttons and while still holding them press the POWER button. Continue to hold the speaker buttons for another second or so. The display should all light up and flash at 1-second intervals. If not flashing, try again.
This should reset the unit back to factory state with the front panel lock disabled.

In short, HDMI will not work. HDMI is riddled with issues, your's is just one of many! HDMI version 1.1,1.2,1.2a,&1.2b do not work 100% on any receiver. The current version is 1.3b and "so far" it works... Now the bad news; It's not just a software patch to fix the problem, it's a hardware issue as well. If your unit is still under warranty, the manufacturer will update hardware and software for you at N/C. If it's out of warranty, it's way too expensive to have done! The fix is to run your HDMI directly to your TV from source, ie. Cable,DVD, etc. then run coaxial digital or optical to your receiver for audio. The catch.. How many HDMI inputs your TV has will limit sources hooked up via HDMI. If you want further info on HDMI issues, just google "HDMI forums" and there are many different sites to answer the problems of HDMI. Hope this helps.
