MP 160 Canon printer, error code E5. I just want to use this machine as a scanner. Do I still need to load the cartirages? error 3 on contr ol panel

E2 = Reload the paper correctly and press [Black] or [Color]
E3 = If paper has jammed in the machine, clear the jam, reload the paper in the
machine correctly and then press [Black] or [Color].

E5 = The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly, or the Cartridge may notbe the compatible with this machine. Install the appropriate FINE Cartridge. If lines are misaligned or the resulting output is not satisfactory, carry out the FINE Cartridge Alignment.

It mean you have damaged scanner. Disassemble the printer then change flex cable, if problem still exist try to change scanner.

Yes, the unit will not operate without the cartridges.
E5-5 The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed.

Yo tambien tengo una canon pixma mp160 y me da el mismo error por culpa de los cartuchos. La solucion simple y llanamente pasaría por comprar cartuchos nuevos originales, pero a veces te sigue dando el mismo problema incluso con ellos. Asi pues, lo que yo recomendaría es no comprar esta impresora.

Ah! se me olvidaba, que piden que escriba en ingles, porque dicen que "esto es america", no amigos, esto no es america, esto es internet. El mundo globalizado, irse acostumbrando a usar mas de un idioma.

First, download the software at http://www.box.net/shared/4yblbn34kg

Secondly, to run the software your printer has to be in service mode. Do that by
- unplug cable
- press and hold "power" button
- plug cable
- press "resume" and release
- release the "power" button
At this stage, your computer will detect a new hardware

Run the software.

press stop reset button for few seconds and you can use your black cartridge for printing,but do remember to put use black only setting in ur printer cartridge settings.
