SOURCE: I tipped my poulan riding mower up from the right to check belt

If you remove the plug(s) so that the oil all drains back down, and some will drain back out of the muffler, it should start. But give a at least one day, maybe two. You may still have to put new plug(s) in it after it's gone. Check the fuel filter and see if you can see oil in it.

Take off the air cleaner when you get ready to start it and spray just a little starting fluid in the carb, Don't choke it. It will run rough and smoke like crazy, but after it runs a while it should be fine. It make take a few starts before it continues to run. At first it may run just on the starting fluid, but once the plugs fire up enough to burn the oil out it should run on its own.

Be sure and check the oil and if it seems like the slightest amount of gas in it, change the oil and filter.

Let us know how it comes out!

SOURCE: Oil leaking around drain plug? Or overfull?

Check the oil in the engine, see if it smells like there is gasoline in the oil. Black smoke would indicate a fuel burn issue, which means there could be a rather dominant presence of gas in the oil pan. This is more common than you might think in an engine that has sat for a while, the gas becomes varnish and causes the float in the carb to stick, allowing the gas to run through the engine. The thinned gas could also be causing the leaking around the plug.

If this is the case and there is gas in the oil (the two smell nothing alike, so it's easy to tell if there is fuel in the oil), then you want to start with cleaning the carb out, making sure the float is not sticking. You'll also need to drain and replace the oil and likely clean the spark plug from where the oil can get into the engine head.

SOURCE: oil leaking from air filter area of push mower and mower smoking

You have overfilled the oil tank. White smoke is only a hassle, not a serious problem. You have to empty some of the oil and change the gas. Clean the air filter if it is the spongy type with Dawn Dishwashing Liquid, rinsing and drying it well before reinstalling. The white smoke will stop soon as it is still in the gas that is in the carb. If the case is that you haven't filled it with oil prior to this smoke then you must be mowing on a hillside and the gas tank was on the lower side allowing oil to leak into the gas. Same solution.

Riding mower with 42a707 Briggs engine won't fire. Changed plugs air filter fuel filter oil. carb is clean and getting gas.using new gas.

Ken are you getting any spark at the plugs ?
If not remove air housing to expose fly wheel and spark coil there is a ground wire going to coil, unplug it to see if you get spark now if not you need a new spark coil.

Several year old husqvarna self propelled riding lawn mower seems like running on one cylinder. Will run, but goes very slow.

1st, check and replace spark plugs as necessary, then check your plug wires. And don't forget to check your fuel and air and oil filters and oil level. How old is the gas? with luck, you've only a simple maintenance problem.

Hi I did a tune up ,changed and checked every thing I done ..too I changed the oil ,oil filter ,gas filter air filter ,got a new battery changed the plugs there new too...even a new belt new key ...but...

Spark and gas??? Must have both. Pull spark plug wire and check for spark. If you have spark, check gap on spark plug. Check the bowl on carburetor. loosen bowl screw to see if gas is coming out. If you have gas coming out, carb needs to be taken off and cleaned or rebuilt.

Compression lockup

Remove spark plug. Pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray WD 40 in spark plug hole. Pull rope several times. ensure compression is present. Replace spark plug with new one. Spray starting fluid in cylinder before replacing spark plug. Ensure plug wires snaps on tight. Check oil level, fill with 30w oil if required. All mowers have a low oil start cutoff. Clean or replace air filter.

Riding mower will barely move

Sounds like it time for a tuneup. Air filter changed, Spark plugs replace and oil changed, plus sharpen the blades while you are at it.

Craftsman riding mower starts rides a few minutes then stops

Make sure that when you check the oil that the mower has sat I say for at least 5mins. Your mower might have an oil sencer. If not I think it might be the coil gettin hot and shorting out.

Why does my craftsman rider blow out black smoke and spit and spudder? I changed the oil and filter.

could be any number of things - when you changed the oil, was it really runny? was it way overfilled? if runny, possibly the carburetor inlet needle is not shutting off and gas is flooding the crankcase. overfilled? older kohlersmeasure oil level without screwing dipstick in. puking oil into the air filter housing? could be a blown head gasket. OR, it could be as simple as a bad spark plug, it DOES happen
