Have a pantax 7.1 camera need to turn off card lock

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My Canon A460 says the Card is locked. The lock switch on the card is set to unlock. I have another camera with a similar card. Both cards work in the other camera. neither card will work in the A460 both...

back up your data first, thenyou reformat the memory card in the camera.i guess you have formatted the memory card in another device.canon cameras generally do not accept cards that have been formatted in another device.then sitch off the camera and reinsert the memory card.

Card is locked

There is a small lock switch on the side of the memory card, slide it to the other position and try again.

1. Turn the camera off
2. take the memory card out
3. slide the lock slider to the other position
4. place the card back in to the camera
5. turn on the camera.

if the problem remains repeat steps 1 to 5.

if the problem still remains its now obvious the issue is not with the memory card, you may try another card on the camera if you wish.

The most likely cause for this issue is in the memory card reader of the camera. there is a small lever/switch on the side of the card reader that detects if the card is locked or unlocked. You would have to take the camera apart and pull the stuck lock "detector"/switch up so that it doesn't touch the the metal.

Unlock card

If the card is locked, you could the steps below:

- Turn off camera
- Remove memory card
- Take a look on the switch of the memory card itself
* If it's at the TOP = card is UNLOCKED
* If it's at the BOTTOM = card is LOCKED

- So, you just have to make sure that the switch is at the top
for the memory card to be UNLOCKED

After doing that, you just have to put back the memory card to your camera and turn on the camera. Try to check if this works.
